Episode seven: “Warm feelings”

“You look happier my friend, tell me the gist.” Prieye said interested. “it’s been days since you got married, tell me.

“Vicky is…nicer now” Rachel said smiling. “Well, he is still rude and all gruff but, he is no longer insulting me anymore.”

“That’s great. It’s sounding better than the first day of marriage” Prieye said curiously. “but I have so many questions. What about your father? Have you heard from him?

“No, I really don’t want to meet him but he is paying for my mom’s hospital fees so it is working out. My worry is Testimony, I am really worried that I left him at Mama Eni’s place” Rachel said concerned

“So Vicky doesn’t know about Testimony?” Prieye asked.

“No, honestly, it’s getting exhausting. I wish I could tell Vicky the truth but then I would lose everything. My mom’s treatment would stop, my brother’s schooling, mine and Vicky would hate me.” Rachel said exasperated.

“I wish you luck because the truth will come out eventually. The truth can’t be hidden for long” Prieye said.

“I know but I really pray he never finds out” Rachel said worried.

“Does that mean you are willing to stay forever with Vicky, living that life, even though you don’t love him?” Prieye asked.

“Who does love help? My mom ‘loved’ my dad and look where she is now.” Rachel said derisively.

“Take heart” Prieye said consolingly.

Rachel returned to the house after visiting her mother and Testimony. She was surprised to see Vicky in the house. She rested inside for a bit before coming out to the kitchen to take water.

Rachel turned around and nearly screamed when she saw Vicky in front of her. She placed a hand on her chest to calm herself. “You scared me” she said breathing hard.

“You weren’t expecting me?” Vicky asked monotonously.

“No, I was just shocked” she said and dropped the cup in her hand on the kitchen table. “You didn’t go to the office today?”

“No” Vicky answered. “Where were you? You seem to go out at a specific time everyday.”

“Um, it’s nothing much. Just to see a friend” she lied and was about to walk away.

“Wait.”

Rachel stopped in her tracks and turned around. She looked at Vicky and he looked at her. “Have you taken a walk around this estate before?” He asked.

“No, I haven’t had the time” she answered unsure.

“Me neither, let’s go” Vicky said and Rachel looked at him. She finally got what he was saying when he rolled himself out.
