Little Butterfly (part 4) - Tiny Sleeping Bag

A couple days later...

Jinx: "Morning, big brothers. Morning, Doobie."

I got out of bed and went to inspect the tank. I couldn't find my chubby green caterpillar anywhere. Instead there was something hanging off one of the branches. Tears filled my eyes as I didn't understand what was happening.

Jinx: "Doobie?"

Nico: "What's wrong, Jinx?"

Jinx: "Nico... what's going on with Doobie?"

He looked at the small thing hanging and smiled.

Nico: "Oh, it's in its cocoon. Remember when I told you it sleeps for a couple weeks."

Jinx: "Th-that's the sleeping bag?"

Nico: "Mhm."

He stroked my head.

Nico: "No need to worry. This means that in just a couple weeks, he'll emerge a beautiful butterfly."

I wiped my eyes and smiled.

Jyugo: "I wonder what kind it'll be."

Jinx: "Hm?"

Jyugo: "There are different types of butterflies, aren't there?"

Nico: "Yeah, there are. Some are small, some are bigger, some have pretty colours to scare of predators and some have darker colours so they can camouflage."

Jesse Waldock: "In case you're wondering 'how does Nico know all this when he's been an unknowing drug tester most of his life?', well, I thought of this headcanon that maybe sometimes while he was lying in bed, having drugs IVed into him, sometimes the guys doing tests on him might have left a window open sometimes. And when that happened, sometimes a butterfly would fly into the room and fly around over Nico's bed. The pretty creature would have been a nice change from staring at the blank ceiling and it made him happy, even for a little while. I just wanted to shine a little bit of light on Nico's dark past."

Jinx: "Colours are scary?"

Nico: "Haha, well not to us. But in nature, sometimes they can mean danger."

Jinx: "Like how Mitsuru sometimes calls Kiji 'poisonous' because he's so colourful? Also, Kiji can be scary sometimes when he gets mad."

He laughed and stroked my head.

Nico: "Yeah, it's kinda like that."

Jyugo: "You sure know a lot about this stuff, Nico. I'm impressed, and honest to say a little surprised."

Nico: "Hm? Oh, it's nothing really."

Jesse Waldock: "Also, I think he just really likes cute things."

The next day, at breakfast...

Rock: "Hey, I invited Liang and them to come to our building for breakfast."

Nico: "Yay! Master's coming too?"

Rock: "Yep."

Uno: "Alright, let's go. Come on, Jinx."

Jinx: "Uh- I'm not hungry... you guys go."

Jyugo: "She's been sitting there staring at that cocoon since yesterday morning."
