Jade's POV

I woke up to the feeling of someone lightly squeezing my shoulder. I opened my eyes and was greeted by doctor Galanis. "Good morning Jade, how are you feeling?" He asks me. I think for a moment and feel my body is still achy, but it should be fine to move.

"It still hurts, but I think I can manage travelling." I let him know. He nods while looking at a piece of paper in his hands. "Your vitals are looking good and we will give you some medicine before you travel, so you will not feel too much pain during the trip." He says.

I nod and he gives the piece of paper to a nurse, who walks out of the room. "They are preparing a hospital bus for transport to the airport. It won't be your regular ambulance, so do not fear when you're being put into a van." He says in a light-hearted tone. I smile at him.

"How will this trip go exactly? Since I'll be stuck in a hospital bed the whole time." I ask him. "We will first use the van to transport you to the airport, where a plane designed for medical transfers will wait for you. They will take you to Los Angeles, where hospital personnel will then take you to the hospital." He explains.

"When do we leave?" He looks at his watch. "In about 15 minutes. Do you need anything before your trip begins? The nurse will give you some food for on the plane."

"I just need to use the bathroom, but then I'm good to go." I let him know. He nods and signals for a nurse to help me to the bathroom. I do my business before being helped back onto the bed. It feels terrible to be so dependent on others. I've always been an independent person and not being able to even walk on my own sucks.

After a few minutes, hospital workers come to transport me to the van. I say my goodbyes and thanks to the doctor as we get outside. He was right about the van. It does not look anything like an ambulance. Luckily the interior of the van was just like an ambulance. I guess they need all the ambulances on the island.

We begin our journey towards the airport, where a plane waits for us. It is basically a commercial airplane, but designed to move patients. I'm not the only one being moved today. It's honestly a pretty funny sight to have all of us on a plane in our hospital beds. My bag is put in the overhead compartment and the nurse prepares me for take-off.

The moment the plane starts taking off, I can feel my body resisting. The pressure does not feel too pleasant on my injured lung and ribs. Once we're at the right altitude and the plane levels, I signal a nurse to help me. "Hello miss, how can I help you?" She asks. "The take-off took a bit of a toll on my body and now my upper body is hurting. Would it be possible to have pain medication?" I ask.

She gives me a sad smile. "Unfortunately, we are not allowed to give medication whilst in the air. It can give a heightened effect and cause your body to react negatively." She tells me.

Shit. Now I'll have to suffer for the remainder of the trip. The nurse gives me some food to eat and walks away. I eat my breakfast and hum at the taste. It's hospital food, but I haven't eaten since early last night.

The flight last hours, but finally I hear the pilot notifying us that we will land in 15 minutes and to prepare for the descent. The same nurse as before comes over and makes sure I'm secured for landing.

The pilot does his best to land softly, but even then the impact was anything but pleasant for my body. I groan a bit, but decide now is not the time to complain, since I will be with my love very soon.

We get taken off the plane and I'm being put in an ambulance this time. The ambulance worker gives me some morphine for the pain and we drive towards the hospital where I'll spend the next few days.

I start feeling droopy again, so I close my eyes for a few seconds as we still had a 30-minute drive to go.

I get woken up by the ambulance worker, who lets me know we've arrived. We go into the hospital where I'm transferred to a pretty nice room. It's a lot better than the one on Lesbos, I can tell you that.

The nurses set everything up and I'm once again stationed in a hospital. It's morning here, which does weird things to my brain since I left Greece in the morning as well.

Once the nurses leave a doctor comes over. "Hello miss Cosmer. My name is doctor Jackson and I'll be supervising your recovery these upcoming days." She explains. I just nod and wait for her to continue.

"The hospital in Greece has updated us on your injuries and we would like to do a quick examination just to make sure everything on my paper here checks out." She explains. I nod in response and she starts with some basic checks. After she did the small checks she takes me over to do some scans.

"Alright, everything checks out so we'll continue with the current recovery plans. You'll have to stay here for three days just to make sure you're fit enough to go home for further recovery. Your girlfriend has already been contacted so she should be here soon." She says with a smile. I thank her and she leaves the room.

I sit alone in the room watching some TV until I hear my door flying open. I smile when I see my love running towards my bed. She engulfs me in a hug, causing me to groan in pain. She quickly pulls away.

"I'm so sorry baby. I missed you so much." She says as tears spill from her eyes. "I missed you too, just mind the upper body." I joke.

I try moving a bit to the side so she can join me on the bed. I hold bite my lip to prevent myself from grunting in pain. Once I made an acceptable amount of space, I tap the spot beside me. She looks at me hesitantly but joins me anyway. I lean my head on her shoulder and she puts her hand on my cheek.

"How are you and Rose doing?" I ask her. She chuckles lightly. "I should be asking you that."

"I think we've established that I'm not doing great physically, but I feel a lot better with you next to me," I tell her honestly. "Now answer my question."

She sighs a bit. "It's been rough, to be honest. I haven't slept very well since the incident, not knowing how you were doing besides what the doctors told me. Rose knows a little, but I tried to not shock her with it too much. She does want to visit you tomorrow though. She really misses you." She explains.

"I missed her too. And you, of course, even if it's only been like two weeks." I smile at her. My broken jaw still made it difficult to smile widely, so for now I had to stick to small smiles.

"I missed you too. How is your body feeling? A plane ride must not have made it a lot better."

"Everything still hurts a lot once the pain killers start to wear off. They couldn't give me any during the flight, so that wasn't fun. I can't smile widely, thanks to the broken jaw. Laughing also hurts and I can't move my body too much without it hurting. But I honestly only care about the fact that I can hardly do anything by myself." I tell her. She kisses the top of my head to comfort me.

I close my eyes at the comfort of the moment. For the first time in the past days, I finally felt at peace again. She combs her fingers through my hair and we just sit in silence, enjoying the presence of each other.
