"Is that our que?" I ask him as I hear faint gunshots somewhere on the ship.

"Yep," Cap grunts, running around the corner. He jumps up in the air and throws his shield at the window, and it crashes through. He climbs through the broken window, and I follow after him, climbing up before I swing through the window.

I land on Cap, who is on the ground. We both grunt and I tumble off him.

"Oof, sorry, Cap," I say, getting up and jumping over the controls and computers. I grab his shield from a now bent metal cabinet before tossing it to him.

I slide over the controls again and run after the pirate that got Cap on the ground with him following closely after me. I slide down a stair railing as Cap jumps over it, and we both land on the ground.

"Romanoff missed the rendezvous point, Cap," one of the men's voices from the ship says. "Hostiles are still in play."

"Natasha," Cap pants into his wrist with the walkie talkie-type communicator that they gave us all before we left the plane, "Batroc's on the move. Circle back to Rumlow and protect the hostages. Natasha."

Before he can say anything else, someone's foot comes in contact with Cap's shield. He flies backwards and grunts.

I turn and look at him as he tries to get up before I look back at the pirate.

He kicks his leg up, and it comes in contact with my nose, and I stumble backwards. "Ow," I groan, holding my nose. "Fuck, that hurt! You fucking asshole!"

I start punching my arms around to hit him, but he punches back slightly worse before punching down at my chest. I groan and put my arm over my chest, squeezing my eyes shut. "Jesus Christ, not the boob."

Cap runs forward and goes to hit the pirate, but he kicks Cap's shield, sending him backwards again. They try fighting, and the pirate does a few cartwheels before Cap falls onto the ground with his legs apart and the pirate's leg lands in between them.

They keep fighting and spinning around each other. Cap jumps over the pirate when he gets on the ground. They both get up and start punching and kicking at each other.

When the pirate has his leg up to kick Cap's shield, I spin under him and kick his leg. He falls on the ground with a grunt. Cap's leans down and pushes him backwards with his shield.

The pirate puts his hands back and jumps up onto his feet. He hits his chest before running and attacking Cap. They fight, and I roll my eyes and sit down on the last stair.

Cap grabs the pirate's shoulders, kicking his leg up and hitting the pirate's chest with his shield. The pirate tumbles down and starts doing backflips.

The pirate starts speaking French, and that makes me sad that I took German and Russian instead.

Cap seems to understand what he says because he takes his shield off his arm and puts it on his back before unclasping his mask and taking it off. He says something in French back to the pirate before tossing his mask to me, which I catch.

They both start fighting again, kicking and punching each other. Cap kicks his leg, then kicks his torso. He jumps up and flips around, sending the guy on his back and on the ground.

"Are you guys done yet?" I ask, leaning my head against the railing. "I'm bored."

The pirate stands up, and Cap turns to me, putting his finger up. "Yeah, one sec," he says before running forward and tackling the pirate through a door and onto the ground.

I sigh and stand up, walking around the corner and into the room that they crashed into.

"Well, this is awkward."

"What are you doing?" Cap asks Nat, getting off the pirate before walking over to her. I put Cap's helmet down on top of the controls and kick the pirate's leg, seeing if he moves. He doesn't.

"I'm backing up the hard drive," Nat replies. "It's a good habit to get into."

"Rumlow needed your help. What the hell are you doing here?" Cap asks her, stopping next to her. "You're saving S.H.I.E.L.D intel."

"Whatever I can get my hands on," Nat says.

"Our mission is to rescue hostages," Cap says.

"No, that's your mission," Nat says, then nods to me as I sit down in a spinning chair and start to spin. "And Redshot's over there." She takes out a flash drive and turns to Cap. "And you've both done beautifully."

Cap grabs her arm and stops her before she can walk away. "You just jeopardized this whole operation."

"I think that's overstating things," Nat says. "I mean, bringing Redshot on this mission is jeopardizing enough. I don't change that."

"Hey, what's it like to be an actual Avenger?" I ask them, spinning in the chair.

"You're looking at it," Cap says, turning to me. "Except you're not an Avenger."

"Yet," Nat says. "Fury is still thinking about it. And being out here is Avenger enough."

The guy on the ground stands up and starts running, throwing some sort of grenade at us. Cap hits it with his shield, and it bounces away.

"Cher," Cap says, so I quickly get up and go over to them. He wraps his arms around Nat and I, picking us up before jumping on another set of controls. Nat starts shooting her gun at people as Cap jumps us through the window and the room behind us explodes.

We all separate and move backward, leaning against the wall. I huff. "That was fucking cool."

"Okay, that one's on me," Nat says, turning to Cap.

"You're damn right," Cap says before getting up and running. "Wilson, hurry up."

I huff and get up, running after him with a wave to Nat as I pass her.

"You know what?" Nat says to me as we sit in some waiting room at S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters, "I think I'm starting to like you."

"Wow, I'm honored," I deadpan.

She shakes her head. "Don't be surprised if it takes Steve a bit to warm up to you. He acts all tough, but he's one of the biggest teddy bears ever. Just don't tell him I told you that."

"Okay," I say, leaning my forearms on my thighs, "why am I really here? You seem pretty close with Fury, and he's the—mastermind—of this whole thing. Whatever. Anyway, I was living perfectly fine with my parents before I started getting calls from him. You know, I was gonna get apartment and move out, actually do something with my life, keep killing people. You know, the usual thing. And then I got a few hundred calls. Why?"

Nat shrugs. "Fury made me do some research. Cap and I wanted some help if Fury was gonna make us do something crazy. I did my research, looked for anyone that was remotely close to be able to be an Avenger. Then I found you."

"And I'm special?" I ask. "Really, Nat, I am honored."

"Stop being so sarcastic," she says, rolling her eyes. "You seemed like the best option. Seeing as who your father is, and his obvious pride in the girl him and Vanessa brought up, you're a good fighter. I told Fury, he looked into you, and here we are. He called you, made you annoyed enough to do something to shut him up. And now you're on your way to becoming an Avenger."

"I'm not going to become an Avenger," I say. "I don't care if I'm offered it. I'll decline. I'm not a good person, Nat. I'm just a really bad person that likes to beat up the worse guys."

"You don't have to be a good person," Nat says. "Do you think any of us Avengers are saints, Cher? You don't need to be a good person. Be exactly like you said. Just be a bad person who beats up the worse people. You might just have to put a title on it."

I laugh. "My dad would die if I joined the Avengers."

Nat chuckles. "Well, I'll be the first to welcome you to the family when you do join."
