happy belated birthday to aki (28th oct), amai (4th nov), kaso (29th nov), and kihona (22nd dec)! love you all...well...two of you...

and a belated happy holidays to all! here's to 2022

i figured, since it's been so many months since our last post, that it would be useful to you to be recapped on the events of UPG so far. this was written by our fine editor and my own sibling Spears, so all credits to them (i cant tag them bc wattpad is an arse).

next chapter will hopefully be published tomorrow!

Our story begins with an unknown university student trying to finish a last-minute essay. As they explore their apartment, they hear strange noises and begin to suspect they might be being watched. Just before they can go to bed, they are attacked by a mysterious intruder. Despite their best efforts, the student is killed.

An unknown amount of time later, we join Kihona Hideyoshi, Future Ultimate Psychologist and student of Lorem University for the Gifted. After one last phone call from her family, she arrives at her new campus with instructions to head to Common Room 1-B. When she arrives, she is overwhelmed by dizziness and passes out.

She wakes up to find herself in an unknown room decorated like an old Victorian dollhouse. While there, she meets Haruka Nico and the two agree to explore together. When they leave the building, they find their surroundings devastated, as if in the aftermath of a war or natural disaster.

Over the next few hours, Kihona meets 15 other Future Ultimates, none of whom can remember how they got there. Shortly after, they encounter the mascot Monokuma, a robotic black and white bear who tells the students they must kill one another to escape. The rules of the killing game are established, and the students find that they are somehow in the year 2023, 3 years later than when they arrived.

Determined not to be beaten, the students split up and investigate their surroundings. Kihona is grouped with Haruka, Jin Toku and Shiro Rutherford. They find the ruins of several university buildings and a mostly intact Entertainment Centre. Soon, the group is interrupted by Daiki Ugoku, Minato Kobayashi and Ayana Sato arguing in the distance. Listening further, they find that Ayana has a daughter at home - a child she had with fellow student Kaso Sukeo.

They go inside to share their information. Among other things, they discover the existence of a mysterious bus driver who seems to never talk, personalised rooms for each student, and a live electric fence surrounding the school's perimeter.

Over the next few days, Kihona spends some time with the other students. She makes candles with Aki Kasaino and talks to Mitsuharu Tadaka about their childhoods.

Some time later, Kaso suggests a group night out at the university bar. There is initially scepticism, but eventually everyone agrees to it. On the way there, Kihona and Tory Aina notice the wooden clocks that appear to be broken and unmoving. When the time comes, the night is initially uneventful until Kaso and Yana get into an argument about their child, Kayori. Kaso reveals that Yana has been lying about the girl's age. The argument almost turns violent, before Kaso and Daiki leave the bar. Yana soon follows, and Kihona decides to leave early too.

The next day at breakfast, Monokuma angrily confronts the group for trashing the bar. He tries to have them all punished, but Mamoru Chusei reminds him that there technically isn't any rule against littering. Monokuma angrily relents, but insists everyone cleans up the bar by the end of the day.
