"What is wrong with you Mirabel?!" Abuela shouted at me.
I flinched as she raised her voice.
"Why were you trying to ruin Antonio's big night with your lies?!"
"I know what I saw Abuela! There were cracks everywhere a-and, and I saw the candle burn dimmer!"
"Stop lying Mirabel. The magic. Is. Not. Dying. End of story."
"B-But-"
"ENOUGH!"
I cowered in fear. I had never heard Abuela shout at me like that.. My family looked at Abuela in shock. It seems they had never heard her shout like that before either.
Abuela looked at around at the shocked faces and cleared her throat before speaking again, but calmer.
"Go to your room Mirabel. I don't want to hear a word from you for the rest of the night."
"But mama-"
"No Julieta. She needs to be punished for lying."
I felt hurt that Abuela would treat me like this.. I ran to my room, tears threatening to overflow.
