"Clavis ad Ianuae Magicae"

The Key to Magic Doors. Teleportation. Father himself never got to properly master portals, so he did not bother to try to teach me the little he knew. Strange and Wong are probably not going to do it either, therefore I am left with one last option; to read a book, learn by myself, and hope for the best.

Luckily, latin was the first language I learned. Even if I hadn't, or if I was too lazy to actually translate the latin, Allspeak would let me understand it. But I enjoy understanding a language by actually knowing it.

"Ut fores aperias, funda anulo opus erit."

Well, that's a problem. A sling ring. What is a sling ring and why do I need it to teleport? Is it obligatory? I saw the wizards wearing weird rings, but I don't remember them, and I cannot ask Strange for he would realize what I am trying to do. It must not be that necessary.

I stand up, using magic to keep the book at my eyes' height, so I can continue reading it.

"Cogitare de destination." I think about the alleyway from the other day...

"Leva siniestra manum tuam." Left hand up...

"Dextram tuam levorsum movere." I move my right hand anticlockwise...

No, it's not working. I suppose the sling ring is obligatory.

For a moment, everything shakes around me. The old wood, the bed, the door, the empty shelf, and even the small window. It quickly stops. Did I do that?

The silence around the building is interrupted by confused noises. Some lights in the house on the other side of the street turn on, and even inside the Sanctorum I can hear quick steps running. There is a knock on my door.

I open it, and find Strange. —Were you sleeping? —

—No, I woke up an hour ago. —

—It's three am... —he shakes his head, —Anyways, you felt that, right? —I nod. —Good. It wasn't just a simple earthquake. Our tools detected some heavy magical activity on the other side of the ocean. —

I notice he is not wearing his robes, nor his sleeping wear. He's wearing normal clothes. —What does this mean? —

He grins. —It means we're going to investigate. —

We meet with Wong at the lobby. He is also wearing casual clothing. Before even opening any portal, Strange points at me. —By the way, could you change your skirt into pants? Short skirts are a little taboo where we're going. —

—Oh, alright. —I do as he said, —Where was the magic detected? —

Wong starts opening a portal, and I carefully memorize his movements. —The Vatican City. —

Now, I have never heard that name before. But the moment we step into the portal, appear in an alleyway, and walk out of it, I can immediately tell what this place is. It is daytime. There are white and golden buildings, looking like Asgard's castle, just like any temple. Some humans are covered, even from head to toe, and many visitors take pictures. And there are crosses. A lot of them. People selling them, people wearing them, and crosses decorating some walls.

This is a temple built for a god. Based on the symbols around, the god of Israelites. Yahweh.

—Yahweh's temple? —

Strange shrugs. —Well, you could call it that. This is the Vatican, one of the main Christian temples. Part of the Catholic church. But Judaism also believes in him. And I think Islam too, though they call him Allah. —
