The Devil's Hour

—You know, this is considered the witching hour. Like, from three am to four am. Many popular rituals are done at this time because ghosts are supposed to be most powerful now. That might help us, I think. Do you know what the one man hide and seek game is? —

—I'm sure it's very interesting but right now I'm trying not to burn ourselves, Vic. —

It's a shame I can't touch the line of salt to fix it and make it look more even, but still, it's looking like it will block the door the way we need it to.

—Why are we protecting the kitchen? —

—Knives. —I shrug, —And food, I guess. —

Ah, perfection. It is only fair that we protect specific rooms in the Sanctum, either because they have important objects, or just because we don't feel like reorganizing them. The kitchen, everyone's bedrooms, the basement, and anything that connects to the other wizard's bases.

The ground slightly shakes, and Victoire instinctively makes us hold the door frame.

—She's here? —

She's still a little far.

I sigh, and put the salt bottle in a pocket, walking to the lobby and sitting at the end of the stairs, waiting.

Victoire's hand moves to another one of her pockets, grabbing her phone. She opens the conversation with Barney, and "shows" it to me, as if we weren't sharing the same eyes.

you know

its pretty unfair

I wanna fight too but you grounded me

I like these chats. They are like short quick letters. Watching Victoire typing is quite hypnotizing and it's the best entertainment while waiting for Her.

Stop crying dumbass

You're embarrassing yourself in front of Star

I chuckle. —Ask him about Django. —

How's Django?

...

was he supposed to be with me

I thought he was somewhere else

—Unbelievable. —

A meow makes us turn our head around, finding the aforementioned right behind us, tilting his head at us.

Nevermind, he's here

You're a terrible babysitter

rude

—Do you think he knows I'm here? —I stretch my hand to him, and he immediately licks it,

—He likes hissing at me for no reason so my guess is yeah. —

But he does hiss. And he starts meowing louder, clumsily trying to crawl up my lap and looking for protection, I suppose. I hide him behind my hand and I look up, just in time for the main doors to open roughly and show Her silhouette.

Victoire's hands are shaking.

—I'm pretty sure your hands are shaking. —

Sabrina walks in, looking at the lobby in curiosity. —I didn't get to properly see this. —the doors close behind Her, and She slowly walks to us, raising an eyebrow. —What's all this, then? —
