TW: CHARACTER DEATH, MENTIONS OF WAR

Alex and John were currently slow dancing to a fast-paced song in John's house. Their reason for this being that Alex wanted to slow dance, while John would've preferred to dance to a fast-paced song, which led to the current situation. John had one of his hands on the others hips, while the other held his hand. Alex had his only free hand on John's shoulder.

This would've been the last time the two interacted with each other for a couple weeks, as John had to be off to South Carolina due to the war. They decided to make their last moments with each other last, starting early the day before, to late today.

John stared at Alex, smiling down at him, while Alex's gaze was downcast, only having a small smile present. They had been silent for a while, -Ten minutes- and eventually one of them had decided to break the ongoing silence. Asking something that should've dropped the mood. "Do you think we'll make it out of this? "His smile somehow still present throughout. John's smile faded; his eyebrows now scrunched together as he attempted to answer.

" I don't know, I don't know. Whatever happens, happens, I guess? We just have to live with it and move on." He gave a half smile, a look of uncertainty on his face. Alex nodded, "So we just live with it?"

"Yeah."

"...I have a feeling one of us isn't going to get a chance to do that." He hesitated before speaking, knowing full well it might trigger a bad response but said It regardless. John's face changed to a surprised expression, before letting his face drop. He stopped, moving his hands to take hold of the others.

"History will prove you wrong. It has to because you can't get rid of me that easily." I was now Alex's turn to wear the surprised expression. "Why would you-?" He was quickly cut off by John.

"Assume you were talking about me? Well, I would've assumed you were talking about yourself, but for the past week you were making claims that you were going to make it out of this, and I don't think you would change your mind so quickly."

Alex stared blankly at him, looking as though he wanted to say something but was trying to find the right approach. "I suppose you are correct." He quietly admitted, before glancing at the door and beginning to drag the other towards it, the music long forgotten.

"C'mon, let's get out of here yeah? Do something else before you leave tomorrow." John smiled a bit, nodding in agreement as the two made their way out the door.

The rest of the time the two spent with each other was mainly spent laughing, talking and Alex feeling a bit uncomfortable every now and then, covering it up with a question before taking a couple seconds to collect himself and remind himself why he was doing this.

Hamilton stood in front of a grave, looking down at it with his hands stuffed inside his coat pocket. His face remained emotionless as he stared at it. He wouldn't have reacted this way if this was just another grave, no. It was the name embedded on the stone that mattered. It read 'John Laurens'

A small smile played at his lips, a reaction that should've been inappropriate. And it was. But everyone else thought it was him attempting to deny the truth and let it slide, even if they were visiting other people.

Hamilton didn't say anything, he only kept quiet while he waited for everyone to leave. He had a feeling he'd get in trouble if anyone else heard what he had to say. After a while, the place was much emptier than before and as he glanced around, he noticed the only ones left were those who were too busy drowning in their own sorrow to care about what he had to say.

He figured that it would have been a decent to speak and cleared his throat, more for himself than anybody else. A chuckle escapes his lips as he glances up to the sky and mumbles something to himself.

"Uhm, Sorry for not visiting sooner. I didn't really want to see you if you get what I mean." He looks back down at the grave, rolling his eyes and turning his head to the left, letting out a sigh. "Of course, you won't, uh..." He thought about what to say for a bit.

"Long story short I was asked to get rid of you." Hamilton turned his head back toward the gravestone before continuing. "I say 'asked' and not 'hired' because I had to repay a favour and it just so happened that they wanted you gone. Why? I couldn't tell you, you seemed like a good person...Well not 'seemed', you were a good person, and I had nothing against you. Not your beliefs, your romantic preferences no. I don't know why but, hey I wasn't in the position to ask questions." He paused. "Even though I did, and I just got some vague reason that wasn't really a reason at all. Why do they do that anyway? At least tell me why you want me to kill this person, it's not like I'm getting paid for this."

He waved his hand around as he spoke, getting off track from the main point. "Anyway, remember a while ago when we were hanging out and you kept asking me if I was uncomfortable or not? Well, I wasn't, and the reason was that I was basically talking to a dead man and any sort of guilt that I forgot to remove, started to flare and me trying to hide it ended in what you perceived as me being uncomfortable."

Hamilton shifted his weight from one foot to the other, looking around a bit, realising that he was now the only one here, aside from one other person. He decided that he should start wrapping it up, even if that's not what he did immediately. "Though, technically I wasn't the one that killed you. It was some random redcoat... Though to be fair, you would've probably lived if someone hadn't delayed the word spreading of the war being over." He clicked his tongue and looked down shaking his head a bit. "Yeah, sorry about that, but it had to be done." He shrugged a bit.

"If it makes you feel any better ... I did care about you. And I loved you at one point but to get the job done... I had to rid myself of the feeling." With that, he turned around, preparing to leave but he remembered one last thing from that day. "You said I couldn't get rid of you and that history would prove me wrong. Well John...You were wrong, on both things, actually." He hadn't bothered to turn around when he said it and bid the grave adieu, knowing that there would probably be an angry soul following him for the rest of his days.
