The Eagle's Cry

I always liked his name. And his demeanor. I would say I always liked his smile, but I can't remember if he really smiled or not. I think he did though, and I would have liked that whether I realized it or not.  Richard was also a name that ran in my family, and the name of a respectable man. Couple that with the name of a majestic animal and there you have it.


He came to town for school, but in a lot of ways he was way more local than me.  I was born in that town, but he lived in it some way that I didn't know how to.  And he didn't know how not to.


We were friends, but we didn't really know how.  Maybe kindred spirits that didn't quite figure out what it was we had in common.  Now I know.  It was the eagle's cry.
