Nova:
I managed to put away all the new books and organize the front desk in three hours so all I had to do was greet customers and sort their books. Since it is a Wednesday it's pretty slow so I doodle in my sketchbook while the stores empty.
I have ten minutes left until my shift finished and since no one's come in for the past hour I decide it won't hurt to shut up shop early, no one's going to come in those last ten minutes.
Although now that I've said that they probably will. By the time I close the till it's closing time anyway, thankfully no one came in. I make sure to lock the shop doors and flip the sign before finishing my shift.
When I reach my car my phone buzzes with a text from Kai.
"Nova come quick" it reads, making me worried,
what have they gotten into this time?
I approach their door twenty minutes later, going through all the possibilities of what they could've done. Completely disregarding the fact that I'll have to face Max, hopefully I don't say anything embarrassing to him.
Just as I'm about to knock, the door slightly opens, I hear yelling and loud screams and and...crying? Confused and slightly concerned I let myself in.
As I follow the commotion I hear a variety of yelling, mainly from Kai.
"Get rid of it!?"
"Why won't it shut up!?"
"AhHhHHhh It grabbed my leg?!"
As I turn the corner into the lounge room, the three boys are all standing on the couch yelling in distress.
Kai with a spatula, clinging to an unimpressed Max, and Luke with a baby bottle all trying to ward off the baby that's crying, trying to reach up to them on the couch.
Wait baby?
Yup. That's a baby. And it's crying, poor thing.
"Nova!" Kai notices me first
"Save us" he pleads ponting at the innocent child
"From... the baby?" I ask walking closer to pick her up
"Yes, the baby" Luke says with a worried look making me shake my head.
I reach down to pick up the baby, bouncing her gently in my arms to sooth her crying
"Aren't you just a vicious thing" I say looking at the three grown men who look like they've seen a ghost
I hold her towards them and they all cower back like she's a bomb.
"Awe are the three grown men scared of a wittle baby?" I mock them unable to hide my amusement.
"Aren't you just the cutest" I look at the adorable little girl who is now happily sitting in my arms, she has huge doe-brown eyes and full lips with cute baby curls.
"So who stole a baby?" I ask looking at Kai
"What!? I ain't steal a baby!?" He defends like it isn't something he'd totally do
"She's our niece" Luke says, confusing me
"Our aunt is a drug addict and we aren't really in contact with her, but she passed away and until we find someone to take her baby, we're filed under the guardians" he explains and I nod feeling bad for the baby who has no parents now
"Sorry about your Aunt.." I say sympathetically
"It's ok, we've only met once or twice" Kai shrugs like it's no big deal
