Kanao woke up. After rubbing the sleep away from her eyes, she got up from her giant clamshell bed and stared at it.

She swam over to the large seashell vanity that matched her bed.

She fastened her hair into her signature side ponytail, with a butterfly clip that her sister Kanae had given her.

After getting ready for her day, she took a copper colored sand dollar from her vanity.

The sand dollar had always helped her make decisions.

Since she was found and adopted out of abuse by the royal sisters Kanae and Shinobu, it had always been hard to decide on things.

Kanao swam out of her room, as she tucked her sand dollar into a satchel. But, she nearly bumped into Aoi, one of the other young girls that  lived and worked in the castle.

"Hey, watch i- oh, Kanao-chan!" Aoi said, her tone changing from irritated to soft.

Bowing in apology, her iridescent dark blue tail began to wave around quickly. "I was just rushing to get these dishes polished..."

Kanao took out her sand dollar and flipped it into the air. After it drifted down slowly, it rested on her palm.

Kanao noticed that the top landed up. Looking up from her hand, Kanao said, "That's okay, just don't overwork yourself."

Aoi flushed pink, and she said "Okay, see you later Kanao-chan!"

The two girls said goodbye and parted, Kanao swimming one way and Aoi swimming the other.

As she got out of the castle, she heard a familiar whining. As she sighed to herself, Kanao swam around the garden, finally to see a yellow haired merman begging one of the junior helpers, Sumi, for a seaweed sandwich.

"Pleaaaaaaaaase, Sumi~chan!" he begged her. "I'm really hungry!!"

Swimming over to her childhood friend, still facepalming internally, the raven haired mermaid swam over to the sobbing merman (of course, you couldn't see his tears underwater).

Kanao stood over the boy with a menacing demeanor and a small glare. Zenitsu felt her presence behind him, and he got up from the ground and turned to face her.

"Oh! Hello, Kanao~chaa..." His voice trailed off as he saw her cold glare. He read her face right: it practically read: "Stop harassing my sister or else..."

"Um...hi?" he said uncertainly, backing slowly away from her.

Kanao took a deep breath. She took her sand dollar from her satchel, and she flipped it. The top came up once again.

"Please don't harass my sister, Zenitsu..." Kanao said softly, but she still felt annoyed.

"Noooo, don't be mad, Kanao~chan!" he begged. "I'll make it up to you by...umm..."

He thought for a bit, and then came up with an idea.

"....by getting Ramune candy!!" he exclaimed.

Seeing that his best friend looked hesitant, he still saw the joy in her eyes.

"Oh, come on, Kanao~chan." he said, with puppy dog eyes. "You don't need to flip your sand dollar to decide...I know you want the candy..."

She sighed, and said: "You know me too well, Zenitsu." He looked very hopeful, and she finally gave in.

"Fine...let's go get the candy, Zenitsu..." she sighed, laughing at her childhood friend's cheering and childish demeanor.
