Third Person POV:
Kanao and Tanjiro ran towards each other. Tanjiro lifted her up into the air (much to the shock of everyone else, since he wasn't the kind of boy to do that until now).
She hugged him back.

"I missed you, Kanao! I thought you'd be gone forever!" Tanjiro said, tears beginning to leak from his eyes.
"I missed you too, Tanjiro~kun..." she said, burying her face into his shoulder.
The embrace seemed to last forever. Until...an angry voice burst out, causing them to break out in redness and embarrassment.
The angry outburst came from Inosuke. "Oi, Gompachiro, I know you two are lovebirds, but aren't we looking for shadow thingy?"
"Oh! U-um, yeah, we'd better go..." Tanjiro said, blushing and scratching his head.
When Tanjiro turned away, Nezuko slapped Inosuke hard in the face for ruining the shipping moment.
Uhm- anyways-
They walked through the forest, looking for a sign of the shadow that had taken the merpeople away.
As the group walked through the woods, Tanjiro and Kanao stayed at the front of the group.
He had his arm around her shoulder, and he put his haori on her back when she shivered.
"Hey..Kanao~san?" Tanjiro asked the quiet girl hesitantly.
She looked up immediately. "Y-yes Tanjiro~kun?"
They turned pink at the sound of the honorifics being used at the end of their names.
"What did that shadow mean when it said you weren't human?" Tanjiro asked her quietly.
"I mean, you don't have to answer if you don't want to-" he began to babble, seeing the uncomfortable look on her face.
"No, it's fine, Tanjiro~kun..." Kanao said. "You deserve to know, at least after everything you've done for me..."
"I'm a mermaid. One of the mermaid princesses, to be exact." she said, stumbling over her words.
"O-oh!" Tanjiro said. "Well then, mermaid or human, you'll always be my Kanao! And I love you that way."
She froze up at the mention of the word 'love'. Her steps became wobbly, and she hugged Tanjiro to steady herself.
"Sorry I never told you before..." Kanao said, a faint blush of embarrassment dusting her fair cheeks. "I was so focused on how you felt and getting to know you...that I didn't tell you about myself."
"There's nothing to apologize about." Tanjiro said. "I love you just the way you are."
They continued to walk, hugging each other. (Insert noises of Mitsuri squealing and shipping)
