Kanao and Tanjiro looked down at the water in shock. The other townspeople were shocked as well, but their faces lit up with joy to know that they had more help.
There in the ocean, their heads bobbing on the surface of the water, was a small crowd of merpeople.
Leading this crowd was none other than Queen Kanae and Shinobu. Behind them was Aoi, Sumi, Naho and Kiyo, along with Akira (the mermaid from chapter 11).
Although his body was frozen from moving, Kibutsuji still had control of his tongue.
"But how?!" Muzan screamed in rage. "I drained your energy and your magic! You shouldn't be here!"
"Never overlook things as big as this, Kibutsuji!" Shinobu yelled.
"You didn't answer my question, you pesky fish!" Kibutsuji spat, causing Shinobu's face to contort in anger.
"To put it simply, you dumb, stupid demon, this is what happens when you leave and forget a moon pearl shard in the kingdom!" Kanae shouted triumphantly, her normally kind and quiet voice sounding a bit dangerous.
People wasted no time in covering the ears of the young children, so that they would hear this adult argument.
(A/N: Just imagine there was cussing during the argument. I wouldn't put that, since, I'm a no cuss no fuss author 😁)
"What?!" Kibutsuji yelled in rage, still unable to move.
That's when Kanao noticed the matching necklaces that this crowd of merpeople wore. They were simple, just a thin strand of rope.
But, the necklaces had one charm: a small piece of the leftovers of the moon pearl. This caused the merpeople wearing necklaces to have a weak magic.
When this weak magic was put together, it had potential to mess with Kibutsuji. Not enough to defeat him, mind you, but enough magic to at least hold him at bay.
Even the young children, Sumi, Naho, and Kiyo, were holding up their tiny hands, making them glow and holding back the monster. The angelic little faces of the girls were screwed up into concentration, trying to be powerful.

The human townspeople rushed forward at this opportunity, taking up their weapons once more.
The assembled soldiers took up their large Nichirin swords and hammered them into the neck of the shadow demon. Tamayo and Yushiro poured more poison on the demon's body.
The demon yelled in pain and frustration as the cuts in his neck got deeper and deeper, and his regeneration speed was slowed down.
