Lucas wanted to yell, he wanted to scream, but he couldn't find his voice, as the world twirled around him and his senses were numb as he staggered backwards. The doctor opened the door and exited the room, and Carter and the others rushed into the room. Alexa crumbled to the floor as she stared at the white and pale body of her sister that looked weird in the red bogus dress she was still fitted in. She wanted to cry, but she couldn't, she couldn't lose her again, not when she just got her back. She buried her face in Camilla's chest, shedding tears as much as her eyes would permit. Bill hugged a terrified Riley tightly, patting her softly on her back as Lucas sat at the counter, with his head in his hand, his eyes dry and faltering like his heart, which was barely beating at the moment. Penelope sat beside him, comforting him, she knew he wouldn't allow himself to shed any tears, alphas had to always look strong, no matter the circumstances, but she was sure he was the one mostly in need of comforting out of everyone in the room.
Suddenly, the door opened with a bang, alerting everyone as they all focused their attention to the small group who had forced their way in. An old woman holding a basket, a skinny girl about Alexa's age, with Lena and Olivia at their side and a blue elf panting hardly behind them stood at the doorway, as Lucas rose up from his seat and moved towards them.
"Who are . . ."
Riley cut Lucas off. "Elizabeth!" She yelled, being the first to recognize the young girl. "Rodian! What are you guys doing here?"
"Who are they?" Penelope asked, as she wasn't the only one who was curious.
"We don't have time for introductions of any sort." Olivia said, as she led Elizabeth and the older woman to where Camilla's body was laid. The older woman touched Camilla's arm, then she pulled down her lower eye lids. She placed the basket she was holding on the floor and placed her fingers on Camilla's neck.
"Oh dear." She murmured. "Elizabeth get that pillow over here." She ordered.
Elizabeth gave her the pillow and she placed it under Camilla's head.
"There's no pulse anymore." She murmured. "But her wolf still has a pulse, that's a good thing."
"How's that a good thing? She's dead!" Lucas snapped. Penelope placed a hand on Lucas chest to calm him down, which was effective as he returned to the counter in silence, then she motioned to the woman, asking for an explanation.
"Well, it means her wolf is fighting the poison and we might use her wolf to bring her back, if we can manage to free her wolf of the poison and concentrate the poison on attacking Camilla's body only, so her wolf could have time to recover, while we get the poison out of her body, then she will be fine." The woman stood up, staring at the confused faces who all focused their gaze on her.
"But what about Camilla, I mean her consciousness? Is it gone? Or what?" Riley asked.
"No. As long as her wolf is in there, she still is, at least some part of her, but she's fading away and her consciousness is not with her body anymore, but with her wolf." The woman paused, she could see they still wanted to know more, to understand it better. "It's hard to explain, but they go hand in hand. Just think of her mind like a vast space, we divert the poison to attack her body, while her wolf finds someplace to hide and recover."
"Okay. What do we need to do?" Lucas asked, impatiently.
"I'll need you to infuse some venom into her. Do not make the bite so deep, aconite attacks the nervous system of werewolves first, then the respiratory system, but it also affects the skin, so all we're doing is directing the wolfsbane to affect her skin, which is what your alpha venom is going to do. It'll give her damaged organs time to heal, and all we have to do is hope her wolf's heart can keep them both going till all that happens."
