I woke up with a smile that slowly turned to a frown when I realised how unrealistic my dream was. If Joe and me lived together one day it wouldn't be in Belfast, near my family. At the thought of the suggestion I could almost see his mother.

I shook my head. I knew I was being silly thinking so far into the future. We were only 16 and had only known each other for a number of months. Even as I tried to dismiss the thought I knew I saw a future with Joe in it. Did he see me in his future? He said he loved me.

I tried not to think like that and got up for the day. When I stood up and opened the curtains in the room I was sharing with Ethan all thoughts were cleared from my head. I grinned and ran down the stairs were I found my mum and grandparents already sitting at the table.

"It snowed!" I squealed in excitement. I had loved snow since I was a little girl.

"It's still going. I think we'll have enough for our snowman soon. You'll have to tell your brother." Grandpa smiled at me over his tea.

As long as I could remember. On the first snow of the year, Ethan and I would make our way round to our grandparents house and Ethan, Grandpa and I would build a snowman. As big as we could make it with how ever much snow we got that year. My granny who didn't like the cold would sit inside and watch us, occasionally bringing us out biscuits and hot drinks to keep us going. It was one of my favourite things.

I stretched my neck to look out the window. It looked like we were getting a lot of snow this year.

We spent all day crafting our snowman. After lunch some of my younger cousins came round to help too.

By the time we were finished I had sore cold red fingers and I couldn't feel my toes through my wet shoes but it was well worth it. I stepped back to admire him with a smile as my grandpa put an apron over his head for the finishing touch. He had two large buttons as eyes, a twig as a smile and a carrot shoved in his face as a nose.

"He needs a hat." I decided.

"He can get my gardening hat, he's not getting a good one." Grandpa went into his shed and came out with a cap that was warn at the edges and gave it to me.

I placed it gently on top of his head. "Perfect." I said stepping back to look at his again.

"Let's get inside now." Ethan said, clearly cold.

As we made it to the door, granny was waiting for us to tell us to take our shoes off before we even thought of coming inside her house.

We were exhausted and flopped down in the living room and waited for our dinner. When the phone rang I knew it would be Joe. It was the right time for him.

I sprang to my feet to answer.

"Hello?"

His familiar voice replied and I smiled even though he couldn't see me. I wished so much he could see the snow with me.

"It's been snowing here!" I told him in excitement.

"Here too!"

"Oh." I then told him all about the snowman we built.

"I wish I could see it." He said, "I wish I could see you."

"Me too." I sighed, "what did you do today, do anything fun in the snow?"

"We had a snowball fight. Then I went home and played with Andy in the snow. He saw it last year but he was too small to understand. He loved it. Almost as much as you did it sounds."

I smiled, Joe's baby brother was so cute, "I'm sure that was adorable."

"I did look pretty cute throwing those snowballs, several of the guys said so." Joe tried to sound serious but I could hear the laughter in his voice.
