Jina was met with Taeyong handing her a bottle of water in the living room.
'What is this for?', she asked, confused.
'You'll need it,' Taeyong replied.
'Let's go,' Johnny said.
Min-hyuk was waiting for them outside with the car. He noticed a change in Jina's usual cheerful demeanour.
'What's up with her? Did something happen?' Min-hyuk whispered to Johnny after Jina got into the car.
'Just something, it's fine,' he whispered back and hopped into the car next to Jina.
After the long car ride of barely any conversation, Min-hyuk dropped them off at a busy square in the city. They were standing in front of what seemed like a dance studio.
'You have got to be kidding me,' Jina said looking up at the sign.
'You have your water bottle, right?' Johnny asked.
It's not that Jina didn't like dancing, but she was not really in the mood at this moment. But, Johnny's bubbly energy and also Johnny physically, pulled her inside the building.
There was already a class going which seemed to have just started and the instructor welcomed both of them in. Everyone was standing in pairs and the instructor's assistant asked Jina to sit near a tall rack full of shoes. He got her a pair of heels to try and to see if they fit.
Jina was confused. 'What kind of a dance class needed heels?' she thought.
The assistant must have read her expression as he said, 'You do tango in heels.'
'This is a tango class?', she asked, astonished.
The assistant was only concerned about finding her a pair of heels. 'Great, fits perfectly, come.' The assistant ushered her and gave her a black skirt to go with the heels for the class.
Jina made her way back to where Johnny was standing. 'This is a tango class,' she whispered.
'I know, I am the one who booked it.' Johnny quickly clicked a picture of Jina in the heels and the very ill-fitting skirt.
'Do you know how to dance tango?', she asked.
'Nope, this is my first time,' he replied looking optimistic.
'Then...', she was cut off.
'Come on, let's go to the front,' he said and pulled her to right at the centre in the front row.
'We are going to start with basics here today', the instructor announced.
'When do we get to hold our partners?', Johnny raised his hand and asked, making the whole class laugh including Jina.
'We're getting to that', the instructor replied. 'Okay, let's start.'
'Hold you partner,' the instructor looked at Johnny, 'this way,' and she demonstrated it with her assistant.
Johnny and Jina got into the position after a little help from the instructor.
'Now look at each other,' the instructor said.
Jina was not particularly short but standing in front of Johnny, she had to crane her neck all the way back to be able to look into Johnny's eyes. And he lowered his head all the way down, his chin almost touching his neck to see Jina's eyes. Looking at the awkward positions of their neck, they burst out laughing looking.
'No don't shift your neck this much,' the instructor said, 'keep your neck in its natural position and just let your eyes move.'
Jina stretched her eyes as far upwards as possible and Johnny did the same downwards. Earlier, they looked like people with acute neck pain and now they looked creepy.
'Okay, now move like this, one step to the right.' The instructor demonstrated and Johnny and Jina, trying not to break away from the position of their necks, tried really hard to look at the instructor from the corner of their eyes. They kept bumping into each other and the people next to them and couldn't stop giggling all this while.
'No, you can look at me when I am showing what to do,' the instructor said.
Even when they used their full sight to look at the instructor, they kept stepping onto each other's foot. At least, they reserved bumping into other people only when they did turns.
After what seemed like ages but was only half an hour, the instructor announced that each pair will show the routine one by one in the centre of the studio.
Johnny and Jina's mouths fell open hearing this announcement. All of the other pairs somehow seemed to not only remember the routine but also did the moves perfectly. Johnny and Jina quickly made their way to the assistant and reserved their spot for the end trying to buy some time to work on some moves in the meantime. But when all the pairs were done, they had no other choice but to take the centre.
The two of them walked tentatively to the centre of the room with all eyes on them.
'So... we're winging it, right?', Jina asked.
'I don't even remember the first step,' Johnny said.
Jina laughed.
'Confidence. Confidence is key,' Johnny said, 'Fighting.'
'Fighting,' she replied.
The music turned on and both of them broke into the most overdramatic tango of their lives. They added their own turns, twirls and kicks which were not only far from tango, but also far from any kind of movement which can be considered as dance.
Turning Jina around, with his hands moving in a circular motion above his head, Johnny whispered, 'Let's do a lift.'
'What? What lift?'
'Just go to the corner and run to me and jump,' he said pointing towards the far-right corner.
'What, no...'
But Johnny had already assumed the position, ready for the lift. Jina floated to the corner, which looked more like someone trying to get out of a very narrow door and turned around. She looked at Johnny and he gave her the signal. She burst into a run and jumped when she reached him. He caught her by her armpits and lifted her in the air and brought her down to rest on his thigh. That's when the music stopped abruptly.
'Pose, pose,' Johnny whispered.
'What?'
'Ending pose,' Johnny said and extended his free hand above his head and tilted his head to the side. Seeing this, Jina tilted her head to the other side and extended both her arms below to form a very deformed looking flower.
Never had the studio heard such a silence before. The assistant tried to clap but the instructor simple stood dumbfounded.
'Uh... that was something,' the instructor finally managed to say.
'See, I told you, confidence is key,' Johnny said and Jina laughed, 'We left them all speechless,' he added and they couldn't stop laughing after that till the end of the class and before leaving she asked Johnny to strike his ending pose again and clicked his picture, laughing all the while.
Johnny had managed to bring Jina out of her gloomy mood finally.
