James

It didn't take long to get mum on board of me taking Riley out of town for a little bit. But I did have to make a deal of continuing my school work while we were gone given I was in my final year
"James, where are we going?" Riley said finally waking up from her small nap. We were almost there so I'm sort of glad she woke up

As we pulled into the cabin, Riley had a small smile on her face. One she tried to hide, one that meant I didn't need to answer her question anymore

"The cabin" She smiled getting out of the car

This place had a lot of sentimental values for us. It was the place we would spend every winter break before and after her mum left us. Riley would always be smitten with all the traditional Christmas magic, I think the reason Piper believed in Santa for so long was solely down to Ri

I walked into the cabin to see Riley already out by her favourite spot

There was this small fire pit we had just down by the lake, Riley would spend her entire life out here if she could, it was sort of her happy place
And over the years, it would always be the number one place you could find her

"Thankyou" She said standing up from the chair coming over allowing my arms to wrap around her pulling her in close
"anytime Babe" I smiled as she rest her head on my shoulder

+I think the pair of us needed this more then we'll ever want to admit

Riley

Later that evening I woke up with this pit in my stomach, something I don't think I could explain. I turned over in the be to met with a vacant spot next to me, I gently pull the covers off of me grabbing one of James' hoodies throwing it over my body before leaving the room trying to figure out where he was

The further I went through the Cabin the more confused I got. I couldn't find him anywhere but it wasn't until I saw the door to the back patio slightly open that I realised where he was

I walked outside and sure enough there he sat by the same firepit her had found me by earlier today
"Hey, what are you doing out here?" I asked making James jump lightly before turning to smile at me

He opened the blanket that lay across his legs allowing me to sit on his lap while his arms wrapped around me happily

"What's wrong?" I asked making James shake his head trying to avoid the situation at hand
"James" I said placing my hand against his cheek slightly cupping it
"I don't want to lose you" He said closing his eyes laying his head in my hand more

"What?" I asked making him look at me with his eyes filled with worry
"I'm not going anywhere" I said
"Ri, you know what I'm talking about" He said quietly in the hope it wouldn't upset me

"All I want is you to talk to me, I want to be able to be there for you completely and utterly. I want you to let me in Ri" He said making me sigh

"Please" He whispered placing his forehead against mine
"I can't lose you, none of us can" He continued making me nod
"I'm sorry" I said but he shook his head this time placing his lips against mine
"You have nothing to be sorry for Ri" He said sighing as we continued to stay in this position

"Do you remember the last time we were here?" I smiled making James hum in response
"Your mum was telling you that you were going to meet the girl of your dreams this year" I teased making me chuckle
"Little did we all know, I had already met her" he answered making me roll my eyes at his cheesiness

"Do you ever regret it? Do you ever feel like you should have stuck with your typical girls" I said making James scoff slightly before turning to me shaking his head

"Babe" he said making me turn to look at him

"Whether you can see it or not Riley, you are perfect" He said making me bow my head
"I don't know" I whispered
"Well I do" He said raising my chin with a gentle touch of his forefinger

"You have always been the girl I compared others too. Ever since the first girl but now I have you - I won't ever need to compare anyone else" he answered
"You're my girl Riley and I'm not going anywhere" He said making me look up at him

"Promise?" I whispered biting my lip lightly
"It's the easiest promise I've ever made" He whispered back before gently leaning forwards softly pressing out lips together
