'She's always a woman' by Billy Joel played through her ears as she walked to the cafeteria glancing around until she found Eddie. She slowly walked over to them before sitting down next to Eddie. Mike and Dustin were rambling on about something to each-other and Eddie was reading the newspaper.

"the devil has come to America" Eddie spoke in a deep voice which caught Alyssa's attention

"dungeons and dragons, at first regarded as a harmless game of make-believe, now has both parents and psychologists concerned, studies have linked violent behaviour to the game saying it promotes satanic worship, ritual sacrifice, sodomy, suicide and even.... murder" the table began to laugh at eddies antics while Alyssa just stared at him in pure awe. "We're the freaks because we like to play a fantasy game. But as long as you're into band or science...or parties or a game where you toss balls into laundry baskets" he spoke his voice growing louder and louder.

"Want something freak!" Jason shouted from across the hall making Eddie put his fingers up like horns before sticking his tongue out making everyone laugh including a small chuckle spilling from Alyssa's cherry blossom lips making Eddie smile before jumping off the table. "that's what's KILLING THE KIDS" he booked scaring a teacher who was walking past. "That's the real monster" he chuckled

"So, uh, speaking of monsters, uh, Lucas has to do his, uh, balls-in-laundry-baskets game. So... he's not gonna be able to make it to hellfire tonight. And I know there's no way we can beat your sadistic campaign without him. So, me and Mike, we were talking, shooting the shit, and we were thinking that maybe we might..." Dustin began his hands shaking ending his sentence with a nervous laugh everyone could sense

"Postpone" Mike added for Dustin groans and shouts of disagreement came from the rest of the table

"Shut up! You saying Sinclair's been taken in by the dark side?" Eddie questioned eyeing the boys

"Uh, something like that" Mike spoke

"Something like that? Jesus Christ. And rather than find a sub for him, you want... you want to postpone "The Cult of Vecna"?" Eddie looked at them a glimmer of mischief in his eyes

"I...I don't want to postpone it. We don't want to postpone it. It's just that, you know, most of the subs will be at the championship game" Dustin mentioned

"Oh it's the championships?" Eddie questioned

"Yeah" Dustin responded

"Can I level with you? Jeff graduates this year. Gareth's got, what? A year and a half? Me, I am army-crawling my way toward a D in Ms. O'Donnell's. If I don't blow her final, I'm gonna walk that stage next month, I'm gonna look Principal Higgins dead in the eye, I'm gonna flip him the bird, I'm gonna snatch that diploma. I'm gonna run like hell outta here" Eddie says making eye contact with the giggling blonde sat at the end of the table giving her a flashy grin.

"Didn't you say that last year?" "And the year before?" His friends questioned making him laugh

"Yeah, yeah, and I was full of shit. This year's different. This year is my year. I can feel it. '86, baby" he spoke a hopeful grin on his face

"You know what that means? It means you boys are the future of Hellfire. I knew it the moment I saw you. You sat on that table right over there, looking like... looking like two little lost sheep. You were wearing a Weird Al T-shirt, which I thought was brave" he spoke eyeing the two boys next to him

"thank you" Dustin muttered his lips folding into a thin line

"Mike, you were wearing whatever shit your mommy bought you from goddamn Gap. And we showed you that school didn't have to be the worst years of your lives, right." Eddie spoke making the group erupt into laughs

"Right" they both responded in unison

"Okay, no, no. Well, I'm here to tell you that there are other little lost sheepies out there who need help. Who need you. And all you guys gotta do is get your Bo-Peeps on and go and find one" Eddie boomed before sitting back down in his seat admiring the blonde girl who sat next to him.

"Do you want to fill in for Lucas for us Alyssa?" Dustin questioned everyone's gaze going to Alyssa

"Uhm not tonight sorry" she said with a sympathetic smile

"Please" Dustin begged

"Uhm no sorry my mum will want me home sorry" she said Eddie gave her a sympathetic smile she couldn't see because he knew that wasn't the reason, he knew it was whatever happened yesterday evening

oh how he wishes he could hold her in his arms again
