you hadn't made any friends.

it was the 4th day of school, and you were still sitting alone in every class.

"GET THE VOLLEYBALLS OUT AND START PLAYING! THE SIDELINES ARE ALSO OPEN IF YOU PREFER TO DO SOMETHING ELSE." yelled the gym teacher.

everyone ran to get a ball, while you stayed sitting, just staring at your phone.

you had nothing to do. your phone was dry, and you felt like a total loser.

"y/n!"

you look up, confused.

it was chris.

"yeah?"

"why don't you join our game? it'd be fun."

"no, i'm fine here. thanks though—"

he took your phone from your hands, waiting for a better response.

"no really, y/n! it'd be really fun. i swear."

you hesitated.

chris had tried talking to you in every class, and was the only person who actually tried to get to know you.

"maybe in the next round."

"yeah?"

you nodded.

he handed you back your phone, and grinned.

"good."

-

after the round was done, he walked back to you.

"ready?"

if you were being completely honest, you didn't want to play.

"uh huh.."

as you attempted to put your phone in your pockets, you realized it didn't fit. the pockets were too small.

"here, i'll hold your phone."

"no, it's fine, i'll just leave it here."

"your phone's gonna shatter if you leave it there."

he was right, but you didn't want his help.

but you did need your phone.

"yeah, fine. here."

chris put the phone in his back pocket, and walked you over to his team.

"guys, introduce yourselves to y/n, she's gonna be on our team. i'll be back in a second."

they all introduced theirselves to you, and asked if you and chris were 'talking'- to which you responded no.

"alright, chris is taking an eternity. let's just start without him."

everyone, including you, nodded, and the game began.

you realized that you weren't *too* bad at volleyball, and that it was actually fun. you just wondered where chris had even gone.

-

"nice game! y/n, you should play more often!" said a player.

"yeah, maybe."

you felt someones presence behind you, causing you to turn around.

"have fun?" smiled chris.

"where'd you go?"

"the sidelines."

"i thought you were gonna play—"

"just thought i'd watch everyone else for a little."

he handed you your phone, and twisted his mouth to the side.

"don't open your photos."

confused, you walk back to the sidelines and open up your photos.

it was a bunch of pictures of him, and a video of you scoring a point.

the last photo he took was one of him smiling, and pointing at you while you played.

"maybe gym is my favorite class now," you thought to yourself.
