"well?"

matt had been helping you get closer to chris for a few weeks now. little to no progress had been made, but you were still determined.

"i don't know. i've got a shit ton of homework matt."

"yeah, we all do." matt rolls his eyes. "just come over. in fact, bring your homework too. since you're so 'busy' today."

"whatever. fine."

"it'll just be me, chris, and you."

"where's nick gonna be?"

"he's going somewhere with my mom."

"but without nick everything's gonna be so—"

"no, it's not gonna be weird! i've got this." matt says proudly. "chris likes you either way, so there's nothing to worry about."

"then why does he avoid me?!"

"because you avoid him!"

the school bell rings, so you and matt wrap your conversation up.

"i'll see you after school then?" matt asks.

"yeah. does chris know i'm coming?"

"maybe. maybe not." matt shrugs.

[3 hours later]

"you guys want pizza?" matt asks you and chris.

"no," chris gets up from the couch. "we should go on a drive to mcdonalds."

"yeah?" matt asks you.

"sure."

matt walks to grab his car keys, and you guys head over to the car.

"i'll sit with y/n in the back," chris tells you and matt. "it'll feel weird if we're both in the front and you're alone in the back."

"im fine with sitting alone, you don't have to."

"it's fine. more company, right?"

"..right."

chris opened the door for you, and sat down next to you while matt turned on the car.

"so, what do you want to eat?" chris asks.

"i'll just get whatever you guys are getting."

"chicken nuggets?"

you nod, and he stops talking.

shortly after, matt turned the radio up to fill the awkward silence in the car.

".. how was your day?" chris asks you.

you shrug.

"not bad, not good. you?"

"yeah. me too."

you both stared at eachother blankly, unsure on what to say next.

"you should come watch our next lacrosse game." matt blurts out, watching you and chris on the rear view mirror.

"oh yeah," chris agrees. "you should."

"yeah? when?"

"friday."

"hmm.. i'll see."

"it would be fun." chris tells you.

"he'll even score a point for you." matt jokes.

chris shoots him a nasty look, but brushes it off quickly.

"yeah. maybe i will."

"really." you say skeptically.

"do you not trust me, y/n?" chris laughs. "i'm great at lacrosse."

"sure. whatever."

"i swear i will!"

he puts his hand towards you, leaving only his pinkie out.

"what?" you ask, looking down at his hand.

"pinkie promise."

"what if you don't get a point, huh?" you grin.

"then.."

"you get to bully the shit out of him." matt interrupts.

"i'm not that mean." you tell them.

"and if he does keep his promise," matt says. "you guys hang out for a day."

"what—"

"deal." says chris.

chris continued holding his pinkie out for you, until you finally gave in.

"fine." you say, intertwining your pinkie with his. "i'll be there on friday."
