"Why am I not surprised that your already in here in less than two days?" Doctor Macnia had and odd sense of humor.

"Soon it will be never, again." She looked up from putting synthetic skin bandages on my knuckles. It's like getting skin painted over a scar or cut. When done right you'd never know it existed in the first place. It also helps heal faster and fuses to your skin, so it won't peel off.

"Your leaving already?" It took everything to fight back tears. I nodded when I couldn't find words. "You don't want to leave, do you?" I shrugged. I was torn by obligations and longings. Between what I knew was right and what I wanted.

"Want me to take care of that scar before you go?" I nodded. The tickling sensation started at my forehead and went down between my eyes, then down the side of my nose and cheek.

"And there you go." She lifted up a mirror to show me her handy work. You couldn't even tell. I pressed my lips together and nodded. "Kid, Chief is waiting with a PFC to take you to safety. Get out of here, enjoy life to the fullest and forget about it."

I straightened my posture and looked her dead in the eye. "You won't tell any Lasgrothians will you?"

She lifted and hand and placed the other over her heart. "I swear it."

"Then tell Chief I'm on my way."

Sitting in a PFC as Chief loads a few things like food and such into the compartment behind the front seat and back console. He got in and put his helmet on. I closed the hatch and we started the preflight sequence.

The airlock doors opened and drifted out into space. "Alright, kid you ready?"

"Yeah."

He pushed the joystick and we went pasted the Burner in a matter of seconds. "Republic here we come."

I looked back as the Burner got smaller in view. No turning back now. The Lasgrothian shuttle we took was short range. Mainly for getting people off the planet and onto a cruiser class ships that were in the outer space docking field. It would take them several days to reach us in that shuttle.

The PFC was short range as well, but it was built for speed and agility than transportation. With weaponry to destroy a small moon.

"How far till we hit the edge?"

"Twenty three hours and fifteen minutes. We'll take turns driving. Go ahead and fly this bird. I'm going to take a nap." I grabbed the joystick and kept her steady.

"Couldn't we just put auto pilot on?"

"You could if you want, but keep and eye on the instruments." He yawned and leaned back in his chair a little. I grabbed my Handheld and pulled up some schematics of ships to look over. Every few minutes I'd check the instruments.

After looking through a few ships the schematics came up for the Lasgrothian shuttle. I'm not surprised it was in the computer. All ships in near by range get scanned if there is no ray shields that interfere with the sensors. But, why was that the next one on the list? I switched to just reading and pulled up Call of the Wild by Jack London.

Around twelve hours in I woke Chief up when I couldn't stay awake much longer. The swirl of space at light speed was abstract art in itself. I dreamed. I looked down at a box. It was black and cubed. Wires were everywhere and a timer counting down. The ship was trying to get as far from any major planet as it could. I had a mess and somehow I was the only one that could stop this disaster from happening.

I was beginning to have a melt down. I finally just yanked all the wires out of the box. A flash of white shot through my vision, then all went black.

I pushed myself foreword and tried to slow my breathing. "You alright, kid?"

"Yeah, just a bad dream." I stretched as best as I could in the confined quarters.

"I get those from time to time. Do you need to talk about it?"

"Na, it will pass eventually."

"Alright, but I would highly recommend you talk to the ship's psychologist when they meet back up with us."

I let out a laugh. "I'll be sure and do that." There was no point in trying to get anymore sleep at the moment and I needed to be distracted from the dream I had.

"Were only a few hours from freedom." My stomach started to feel like it was inside out. The sensor hallow screen came up showing rear view of an incoming ship out of light speed. My eyes got wide. It didn't take them long.

It was a Lasgrothian Battle Cruiser class ship. The biggest they make. It made the Burner look like a PFC in comparison.

"I'll make a jump into light speed. Hold on."

"Stop. It won't work."

"Why?"

"They can demolish a ship while in light speed." Our little PFC jolted. We were caught in their tractor beam.

"I sent a distress call back to the Burner."

"It went through?"
