Due to George's inability to operate an automobile and Dream's inability to show his face in public, Sapnap arrives at their doorsteps in an Uber.
It's late, something like one in the morning, and the cake has been sitting in the fridge for a comfortable few hours or so. A small square cut out of the rest of the pan foreshadows its inevitable demise, though in the calm of the night such destruction is far from the minds of sleepy subjects.
Dream finds himself surprised to be one of such sleepy subjects, as previously it was his practice to not sleep until at least witching hour has long passed, but his and George's combined effort to craft something of a sleeping schedule has apparently paid off. Even the synthetic wash of light from his computer screen isn't enough to keep him from accidentally lolling into the desk and startling back awake twice, and Dream fears the third repetition might be closing in on him soon.
George doesn't seem to be faring much better, the man already having collapsed onto the bed atop the blankets. Dream recalls he might have made an effort to stay awake by looking at his phone, but seeing as his phone is cold from disuse and he himself has bundled up in what fabric he could find without actually succumbing to cover under the blanket, Dream safely concludes that that effort has failed.
To keep himself awake, Dream paws at his phone on the desk and clicks it open. He scrolls through the brief exchange he had with Sapnap when he landed.
Sapnap
i landed
i lived, bitch
Dream
???
but congrats
Sapnap
dude the turbulence was so bad i legit thought i was gonna die
had my last words typed up and everything
Dream
you know the chances of you dying in an uber coming here are higher than the chances of your airplane crashing right
Sapnap
what can i say
the heart feels what it feels
Scoffing again even the second time around, Dream quickly makes his way to their last exchange.
Sapnap
uber is here
i'm coming
and also arriving
Dream had rolled his eyes at Sapnap's usual sense of humor, though a thrum of excitement that they were this close (no pun intended, good God) to meeting caught up to him and smoothed away his slight frown.
He spent the next 30─or was it 40? Or 50?─minutes switching between dozing off and startling awake with a new ping of energy, and it was when he was on the brink of passing out for the last time and maybe sleeping through the night that the doorbell rang.
Dream stands up in half a moment's time, so quickly that his vision swims for a good 10 seconds and he's left immobile in front of his desk. When he finally recovers, he just about sprints out of his bedroom before remembering that George probably wants to be present for this too.
Scrambling back into the room and onto the bed and shaking George awake with the enthusiasm of an 11-year-old shaking his parents awake at 5 a.m. on Christmas morning, Dream breathlessly utters something along the lines of "Darling sweetie honey Sapnap is here wake the fuck up before you miss the whole event." At the instance of George's disgruntled groan, Dream bounces off the bed and makes a mad dash for the front door just as the doorbell rings again. And again. And again. And again. And-
