End Recap

Opening the door, I am hit with the same paralyzing fear Sam must have felt, I wish Sam was here. I breathe in the out and remind myself, that I don't need Sam, I'm a grown-up. I step in line. Coffee will help. As I'm waiting, I take deep breaths. Someone taps my shoulder, startling me. I turn around and see him. My dom. I notice his eyes are hazel.
"Hey, I'm David, I was sitting over there by the sofa and saw you come in, I was waiting but well... I wasn't very patient."
He lets out a soft chuckle.
"Hey, well, uh... I..." my breathing sizes up a bit.
My heart starts racing. Breathe in. Breathe out. I smell coffee, helping a little with grounding me. I know that drinking some caffeine will help me be calmer.
"Hey, you okay, do you want some water, do you want to sit down?"
Again, I remind myself, that I am an adult.
"Sorry, nervous. I'm Charlie. Uh... what's up?" I have no idea what we are supposed to talk about.
"Well... currently I'm in line with my match, freaking out a little."
I smile at that. "Are you getting anything?"
He responds "Yes, I always get the same thing, dark coffee with a coffee cake, they are amazing."
"Never tried a coffee cake but I'll take some from you."
"If you ask nicely, then yes, you can." He says it nicely, with a smile but still. It's the principle of the thing. He can't boss me around like that.
No thank you, I do not want it anymore.
"I'm just going to have a coffee."
"Are you sure that good choice?"
"I'm having coffee. I'm an adult, I can choose my drink."
We are barely a minute in and he is already controlling me.
"I didn't mean to be rude, sweetie. I'm just saying your leg is bouncing and your hands are shaking, maybe something without caffeine will be better?"
I look away from him. And step forward in line, I am ignoring him. The barista says, in a monotone voice, the practiced line. "Hi, what would you want today?" David speaks first asking for black coffee, coffee cake, and a cake pop. Then he looks at me. I want coffee but my hands are shaking... he does have a point. "Uh... I-" I look up at the menu for something noncaffeinated. I always order the same thing, now I have to choose between all of these new drinks. What if I don't like them? What if they are out of stock and the barista has to tell me to find something else? What if I can't pronounce it and she corrects me? What if David says no to what I choose? I don't care what he thinks. Scratch that last one. I can't choose. I can't.
"Hey, Charlie? Do you want some help choosing? It can be like a surprise!"
I nod, happy the weight is off me. That sounds nice.
"I am not a baby."
I need to clarify this. He needs to know.
"I know," he says. His voice was so patient, not even a little frustrated.
" I don't like tea."
He nods and says "aye captain!"
He orders a noncaffeinated thingy that taste pretty decent for me, and pays, I offer but he refuses. The woman asks for a name to use for the order and before he can reply I say "Pepelongstokings". Holding in my giggle, I push him away from the counter.
