-Y/N-

"Yeah, I don't know." Erica said, unsure, looking up at the vent.

Her, Steve, Robin, Dustin and I were all sitting in the back room at Scoops Ahoy.

My plan to get Erica to crawl in the vents and unlock the secret room was underway. We had so far told her about everything, and now it was for her to decide.

To sweeten the deal, in front of her lay dozens of scoops of different ice creams.

"You don't know if you can fit?" I clarified.

"Oh, I can fit." She looked at me. "I just don't know if I want to."

"Are you claustrophobic?" I asked.

"I don't have phobias." She said with sass.

"Okay, well, what's the problem?" Steve questioned.

"The problem is, I still haven't heard what's in this for Erica." She said, putting emphasis on her name. She then passed the sundae next to her towards Steve. "More fudge, please." She commanded in a seemingly sweet voice.

Steve hesitated, giving her a look.

"Go on." Erica shooed him with her hands. Steve sighed and got up, taking the sundae with him to add more fudge.

"All right. You see this?" I pulled the map and showed her the marked path. "This is the route you're gonna take."

"Then we just wait till the last delivery
goes out tonight." Robin continued. "Then you knock out the grate, jump down, open the door."

"Easy." Dustin smiled reassuringly.

"Then you find out what's in those boxes?" Erica asked.

"Exactly." I nodded.

"Mm-hmm." Erica thought. "And you say this guard is armed."

"Yes, but he won't be there." Robin assured her.

"And booby traps?" She further asked.

"Booby traps?" Dustin repeated.

"Lasers, spikes in the wall?" She elaborated.

"What?" I scoffed, letting out a laugh. We weren't trying to get into an Egyptian king's tomb.

"You know what this half-baked plan of yours sounds like to me? Child endangerment." Erica stated.

"We'll be in radio contact with you the whole time-" I started to say.

"Ah, ah, ah!" She interrupted, then repeated with more emphasis. "Child endangerment."

Erica grabbed the cup near her and started sipping from the straw, the slurping noises getting louder as she became disinterested.

At this point I could see that not even more ice cream could sway her thoughts. She needed an extra push... extra motivation... a greater purpose.

"Erica?" Dustin waved at her to get her attention. "Hi. Uh... We think these Russians
want to do harm to our country. Great harm. Don't you love your country?" Dustin posed this question. I knew what he was trying to do. He was using the same ploy he first used to get Steve on board.

American heroes.

"You can't spell 'America' without 'Erica'." Erica shrugged.

"Uh, yeah, yeah." Dustin was confused for moment, as was I. I thought about it.... and it was true...
