INT – Living room of the Wood house - 7:00 P.M.

Chuck sits in a chair reading a newspaper. Vivian could only be heard in the kitchen with the sound of running water at the sink. She was cleaning up after supper. Patty comes on screen and walks past Chuck.

CHUCK

"And we're are we going, young lady?"

Patty stops and walks back over to Chuck.

PATTY

"I told you, dad. I'm going out with a friend."

CHUCK

"This isn't that Tony guy, is it?"

PATTY

"No, dad. You made sure I'd never see him again."

CHUCK

"Just remember... it's a school night."

PATTY

"You have got to be kidding me, dad. There's only a month left of school, two months of summer and then I'm off to college."

CHUCK

"What's your point?"

Patty stood there annoyed. She then called out.

PATTY

"Mom!"

CHUCK

"What are you calling your mother for? She knows the rules."

PATTY

"Dad, I.."

Chuck interrupted.

CHUCK

"Look, when you're off at college you can stay out all you want, go protest this war like all the other hippies and do whatever you like. But until that time, young lady, you are still in high school and it is a school night like any other."

Patty screamed in agitation. Then there was a knock on the door.

CHUCK (CONT'D)

"And I would like to meet this young man."

PATTY

"Dad, you have never had a problem with any of my friends before."

CHUCK

"That was until that Tony guy. I have no problems with your other 900 friends."

Patty opened the door and saw a smiling Graham.

PATTY (unenthusiastically)

"Hey"

Graham's smile disappeared

"Everything o.k."

Patty looked towards the living room.

PATTY

"My father would like to meet you."

GRAHAM

"O.k. Sure."

Patty leads Graham over to Chuck in his big old arm chair.

PATTY

"Daddy, this is Graham. Graham, this is my father."

GRAHAM

"It's nice to meet you, Mr. Wood. I'm sorry I couldn't stay for all of Patty's welcome home party."

CHUCK

"Oh... you were there."

PATTY

"Yes, daddy. Graham is the one I wanted you to invite at the last minute."
