Wilbur had kept to his promise and showed up at her flat the next day.
Her flatmate had been waiting with her in their shared living room space until then, they told Dani they'd stay in case things got out of hand.

"He's here" Dani said, standing up to go get him. "I'll be right back"

She walks to the front door and takes a deep breath, and then another, and then pulls open the door.

"Im so sorry Danielle" He starts, morosely. He's dressed up for the family dinner. He looks nice honestly.

Dani moves aside to let him in, and when she does she lets him pull her into a hug once the door is shut.

"I'm really sorry" he reiterates

"It's okay" She replies, ever the people pleaser. "We have to get going anyways, so you can explain in the car" Dani says, pulling away from him to start to grab her things

Dani leaves him for a moment in the foyer to walk into the living room, "We're gonna head out I guess," she says to her flatmate who is trying to read Dani's face and body language.

"You're gonna text me how it goes, right?" her flatmate says in a tone that says it's non-negotiable.

Dani's flatmate walks out with Dani to the foyer, leaving as well. She gives Dani one last reassuring look before giving a glare to Wilbur, "Have fun, Text me" They say before leaving the two inside.

Wilbur scratches his neck, not really sure what to say. He waits there albeit awkwardly until Dani gathers her things and they exit the building.

---

The car ride over to Dani's parent's house is mostly quiet, neither of them bothering with connecting their phones for Spotify like usual. Just letting some random station on the radio play lowly.

Wilbur shifts in the passenger seat, like he's building up what to say, how to phrase it. She sees out of the corner of her eye the breath he takes before he speaks

"It was never my intention to stand you up last night, I promise" he finally starts, shifting once more to face her.

If she wasn't as upset with him the situation would be kind of funny, Wilburs not a short guy and Dani's car isn't very huge so he's got to sit awkwardly every time he rides with her. He endures it obviously but it always makes her want to chuckle.

"I was at the studio with the boys, we got to talking, got to playing our songs, practicing y'know. We haven't had a really good day there in a bit so someone suggested there be a few drinks" he winces as he recalls the memory.

"I had maybe one or two, I kept it minimal, but you know how it gets"

Dani cocks her head in a way of saying 'Not really' but doesn't interrupt him.

"Then it started getting late, we kept practicing. There's this new song we're working on and there's a deadline because we're trying to go on-" He stops himself, like whatever he was gonna say hurts him. She doesn't want to know. It would probably hurt her too.

"I wasn't paying attention to the clock, and by the time I did notice it, it was too late, and the drive back to mine and then to get ready and head to dinner it would have been much much later." He rambles, "Point is i'm really really really sorry. I want to make it up to you. I want to fix this."

"I would like to fix this too, I don't like being upset with you."

"Can you forgive me?" He asks, "Tell me what I can do so you can forgive me."
