Chapter 7: The Blade of Fallen Snow

17 days after you arrived back home, you heard a knock on the door. You went to open it but Tadaria stepped in front of you.

Tadaria: Let me handle it.

Tadaria opened the door. There was a man who had a hat similar to yours but he had a bunch of chimes on it that clinked together.

Haganezuka: My name is Haganezuka. I forged Y/n’s sword. I am here to deliver it.

Y/n in thoughts: Yes! My sword’s here! I can’t wait to see it!

Tadaria turned around. You already had your full get-up on, even though it was night.

Tadaria: He’s right here.

You walked forward.

Y/n: Yes! I’m Y/n! 

Haganezuka knelt down and admired the wrapped baggage he had on him.

Haganezuka: This is a Nichirin sword. I forged it myself.

You looked at Tadaria, confused and he raised both his eyebrows at you. You looked back forward.

Haganezuka: The materials for this kind of sword only come from the mountain closest to the sun. Made from Scarlet Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore. Unique, they produce steel that can absorb sunlight. You see, Mt. Yoko is bathed in sunlight all day. Never a cloud in the sky.

Y/n in thoughts: What about when it's raining?

Haganezuka continued the process on how Demon Slayer swords are made for a while until he stopped himself.

Haganezuka: Wait a minute…

Y/n in thoughts: Oh no.

Haganezuka: Your hair is a little blue along with your eyes. You are…

Y/n in thoughts: Oh crap! My secret is out! How could he even see my hair? Oh. I really need to cut it.

Haganezuka: -a child of brightness, aren’t you?

Y/n: Uhhhh…

Haganezuka: You see, children of brightness are people who have the same colored hair as their eyes. If your family had a past of working with water, it’s considered luck and cause for celebration. That means there’s a good chance this sword will turn blue.

He almost poked your face but you blocked his hand.

Y/n: That’s… fantastic.

Later

You held the sword in your hands. It had black on the tip of the sheath and black at the end of the handle. The handle and sheath were mainly white with a bit of blue between the grip wrapping. It felt amazing. You couldn’t believe you were holding one of the few methods that could kill you, and it’s all yours. Then again, it can’t be all that different from a human owning a gun. You were sitting down and Haganezuka and Tadaria were sitting across from you.

Haganezuka: C’mon. Draw it already. Nichirin swords are also referred to as the “Color-Changing Katana”.

He was doing a weird motion with his hands, waving them up and down.

Y/n in thoughts: He must really like this sword.

Haganezuka: Depending on the bearer, they change color.

Y/n in thoughts: I wonder what I’ll get.

You pulled the sword out of the sheath and held it up for a few seconds. Nothing happened.

Y/n: Is something supposed to happen or-

Haganezuka: Shh!

The sword started fading from its metallic gray to a sleek silver.

Haganezuka: S-silver!?

Tadaria: What?

Y/n: Uhh… Is that bad?

Tadaria: I… can’t say.

Haganezuka was muttering to himself.

Tadaria: This is the first case of a silver blade, ever.

Y/n: Wow.

Hagenezuka got louder with his mumbling, though you couldn't tell what he was saying. All of a sudden, Haganezuka shouted.

Haganezuka: Not again! Just a few days ago, another child of brightness got a sword that didn’t match his hair and eye color! Why does this keep happening!?

Haganezuka was about to jump and attack you but Tadaria held him back. Haganezuka was struggling to get his hands on you and your crow flew in.

Crow: Y/n, you have received orders. 

Y/n: What the? It can talk!

Crow: You must go south west to a village between two mountains. Everynight, a demon attacks the people. You must seek and destroy it. This is your first mission as a member of the Demon Slayer Core. Good luck, Y/n, and be safe.

You left for the village and waved at Tadaria and Haganezuka. They waved back at you. Your crow followed from a safe distance. Now is the chance to prove yourself as not a demon, but as a Demon Slayer.
