Chapter 19

"Diba sinabi ko sa'yo na 'wag? Kitang-kita ko 'yang cookie na kinain mo sa malayo!"

Nahulog nanaman ako sa isa kong jump sequence.

I wasn't supposed to eat the cookie, but I was just so hungry.

Ilang araw na 'kong 'di kumakain ng matino. Ilang araw na ring sumasakit tiyan 'ko. Ilang araw na rin akong nanghihina.

I have convinced myself for so long na ang sakit ay dahil sa crunches at ab workout na ginagawa 'ko, hindi dahil sa nagpapalipas ako ng gutom.

But I just couldn't take it anymore. I caved to temptation and ate a cookie I kept in my bag.

It's just unfortunate that I got caught munching on them like a starved animal.

"Hey"

I was startled out of my head when I heard his voice. I blinked, I didn't notice someone was in front of me.

"Are you okay?" He looked at me through head to toe, parang naghahanap if may masakit ba sa'kin.

"I'm fine," I faked a smile.

Since the championships isn't for another two and a half months yet, I only have scheduled practices every MWF.

It's a Tuesday today, I was in the waiting shed near the university's gate. Hinihintay ko 'yong Grab na binook ko.

"Pa'no mo nalaman nandito ako?"

He did the thing again when he's nervous. A tint of pink colored his cheeks while he's looking anywhere but me, "I asked Julia."

Hays, iyong babaita na 'yon! Next time, susungalngalin ko na bunganga nun!

Mas lalo siyang namula nang iabot niya sa akin ang isang pack ng gummy bears. Mukhang nahihiya pa ibigay. I hid a smile. He knows me so well.

"Ano ginagawa mo dito?" I asked after a moment of silence.

Seryoso niya lang akong tinitigan, gone was the fidgety guy. "Are you ignoring me?"

I froze. Pumikit ako at huminga ng malalim. Just answer calmly.

"I-I'm not," damn it! Sabing calm! Bakit ka nauutal-utal diyan!

He raised his brows at me as if he doesn't believe me. I awkwardly smiled, "a-ah una na 'ko. Baka andiyan na Grab ko," sabi ko sabay lakad palabas ng gate.

I was just walking when I felt his presence beside me.

"Anong ginagawa mo?"

"Waiting 'til your Grab comes."

"You don't need to—"

"I want to," seryoso niyang saad.

Mahina akong tumikhim. Tumahimik nalang ako at pinabayaan siya. I was just staring at the road, checking if my designated driver has arrived while he's just patiently waiting beside me.

The silence was broken when my phone beeped. Kumunot ang noo ko nang makita kong cinancel ng Grab driver ko 'yong ride ko. Hindi ko mapigilang 'di mainis.

Gusto ko na talaga umuwi, I want to rest. I want to take advantage of my vacant day.

Baka rin tumiklop pa ko sa katabi ko if nagtagal pa kaming magsama.

"Come on," nagulat nalang ako nang kuhain ni Lukas 'yong kamay ko. I tried to get my hand off his, but he just tightened his hold. I couldn't stop staring at our hands.

His palm is so warm and surprisingly soft. My small hand fits perfectly with his much bigger one.

It's a good thing I'm walking a little bit behind him, or else he would have seen how much his hand holding mine affects me.
