Jiang Cheng was always caught up with work. It would be sect duties or jin ling. He was tired, always tired. At night he couldn't get more then 2 hours of sleep because of a nightmare. A nightmare that was replaying in his head every night. In the nightmare he saw his sister,mother and father standing in the water which had many lotus surrounding them. They seemed so happy. Jiang Cheng would always run to be with them but every time when he jumped in the river they all disappeared. He starts to drown while seeing his brother wei wuxian with the second jade Lan Wangji leaving him to drown like he never ever existed. Then he would wake up with sweat and tears.
Jiang Cheng was thinking all of that when he was brought back to reality by a yummeng disciple. "Clan leader there is a letter for you" said the disciple. Jiang Cheng without speaking a word took the letter and opened it and what could he expect yet another meeting but this time it was in Gusu lan clan. While thinking of the meeting he suddenly remembered lan xichen who was in seclusion to calm his mind because of the death of his sworn brothers. He only came out during meetings and the other times his uncle and Lan Wangji would handle all the clan duties. While thinking of lan xichen he felt a feeling he never felt before. He tried to deny it but deep down he knew he was Yearning for someone or something to get him out of this hell. Someone he could show his vulnerable side to. Someone who could understand his suffering. Someone who will never laugh but show a tender smile to calm him down. Someone who could watch his back. He couldn't think of anyone but deep down he knew who fit all of those characteristics perfectly to the point he even tried to deny it. It was Lan Xichen. He quickly stopped his mind from thinking more cause he was getting a headache. He messaged his own temples to soothe the headache. It got better but the headache was still there.
Jiang Cheng the prepared to leave his residence. He also wanted to test how well his nephew could handle sect duties so he left him and another person in charge while he was going to cloud recesses. He was thinking of nothing while going there but then he suddenly remembered that wei wuxian now lived there with his husband, the second jade. He wanted to fix there relationship and make it like the good old past but he knew that he didn't have the courage to face wei wuxian and talk about this. He was also not needed in his life anymore. Cause now the one replacing him,taking care of him,loving him was Lan Wangji. He wasn't needed anymore. Even the thought of that make him terrified.
He was in the verge of crying when he saw Lan Xichen standing there to greet all the clan leaders. When he looked at lan Xichen's face he saw a smile filled with tenderness. But today after seeing sect leader lan after many months he realised his smile wasn't as bright as before. His eyes were dull while his face was showing tenderness. He looked somewhat Fragile. He looked like he may break with just a small touch. He thoughts finally stopped when his horse stopped infront of cloud recesses when he was about get off Lan Xichen held out his hand without even thinking while saying "Greetings, Sect leader Jiang". Jiang cheng took lan xichen's hand without even hesitating. Lan xichen gripped his hand tight and jiang cheng got off the horse. "Put sect leader Jiang's horse away" he said politely. The lan disciples did as he said and lan xichen let go off his hand. Jiang Cheng's facade didn't change but deep down he felt disappointed when lan xichen let go off his hand. "Thank you for coming here, sect leader jiang. I apologise for troubling you" lan xichen said with his usual smile. A smile that would be more bright years ago. "Oh no dont say that, sect leader lan. I really didnt mind" but he actually was a little annoyed because a meeting was held at 10am. But he didnt show it instead he showed a soft smile. A smile that no one has seen except his sister. Even wei wuxian never saw that smile. Jiang cheng didnt realise but he had a urge to smile. To smile so that the other (Lxc) can be calmed down. It was truly a smile that no one has seen before. It was a rare side, it could even be called a treasure. Lan Xichen's heart felt warm. A type of warmth he hadn't felt in a while. His smile was so beautiful especially with the cloud recesses mountain scenery behind him. A soft light emitting from the sun making his face glimmer and his eyes glow while light wind made Jiang Cheng's hair blow in a soft manner. Lan Xichen immediately knew this was what he was Yearning for all these months of loneliness. Jiang Cheng's presence made him feel like home. This was Another side of him. The Vulnerable side he got to witness. A side of clan leader jiang that only he has seen. This is what love feels like lan xichen thought
