Big thanks for sticking around. I'd recommend squinting at any timeline errors in this chapter. I feel bad for not posting in literal months. Hopefully I can get the next chapter out by Monday. SO MUCH LOVE TO YALL <3Percy blinked in confusion. Tony was out of breath and looked a bit too slap-happy.
"You did what, exactly?" Percy asked to clarify.
"Time travel! Time travel, Jackson! It's a mobius strip. It was right there the entire time, and I didn't even know it. This," Tony gripped Percy's shoulders, "this changes the game."
"You're kidding." His jaw dropped to the floorboards. "You're kidding, right?"
"No! Jackson, I did it. We can go back and-- and we can save them. All of them. Your parents, Strange," Tony's voice trailed off before he cleared his throat and spoke again, "Peter, too."
Tony had practically seen Percy through his entire young adulthood. He had been Percy's shoulder to cry on as he struggled with the loss of his friends and fiancé, then again after he lost his parents to the Blip. Percy did the best he could to be that same comfort to his mentor with the loss of Peter, but he knew it was a wound best left to time. Tony wasn't like Percy in that regard; Percy had learned how to cope with loss and move on with his life to the best of his ability, while Tony let the grief breed.
"You really think we could bring em' back, Stark?"
"Hell yeah, I do. I have to believe we can because the alternative sucks." Tony only half joked. "Come on, man." He led his former assistant into the kitchen of the cabin.
"What are you doing?"
"Fixing you a proper celebration drink."
"No, no. I don't want to drink tonight. I am not mentally prepared for that."
"What's the worst that could happen?"
"You really want that lake out there to end up in here? I'm not in control of myself when I'm intoxicated. Rest In Peace to the hotel that Nat and I stayed when we got Steve to watch Mean Girls for the first time. That movie is so much better when you're under the influence." Percy shook his head, smiling at the memory.
"Alright, fine, but when we bring everyone back, I'm getting you hammered."
"Deal. We gotta bring them back first, though."
"That's the easy part."
"Oh?" Percy raised an eyebrow. "And what's the hard part?"
"Convincing Pepper to let me get you drunk on our expensive wine." Tony laughed, raising a beer in a mock toast and taking a big gulp.
///
It was the strangest feeling for Percy, seeing everyone in the same place. People he hadn't talked to in years were eating tacos with friends he had seen yesterday. The Avengers Compound was living up to its name.
Nebula and Rocket were there. He hadn't seen Nebula since the incident on Titan.
Thor was there, too. Though they weren't exactly enemies, they also had a tendency to bicker, so they steered clear of each other most times. Thor reminded Percy of stereotypical middle school bullies. They seemed tough on the outside, but as his mother always told him, they were only mean because they had their own problems they were coping with. Maybe Thor just needed a friend.
He approached Thor, who looked a bit disheveled, and attempted a smile of civility. Thor turned around and met his gaze, unsure of Percy's intentions.
