( season six )

LYRA stood at the edge of the ocean, the cool breeze against her face. It was late, the moon high in the sky and not a single other person in the area. She had her arms crossed over her chest, hair flowing behind her. At her side was Professor Charles Xavier. He had asked her to meet him here, at the harbour in New York. He said it was important, and after he entered her mind while she was in a coma, she had her own questions. So, she met with him. She had yet to learn why they were there. Charles was being vague about it, which Lyra did not appreciate.

"We're meeting a friend of mine," Charles informed, reading her mind to know what she wanted to know, though he could have guessed.

"Friend is a strong word," said a new, gruff voice. He poked out of the water and quickly jumped up to join Lyra and Charles on solid ground.

"Lyra, this is Namor, king of Atlantis," Charles introduced. "Namor, this is Lyra Lehnsherr. I believe she can help."

Namor, an attractive man with dark skin, spiked ears and wings on his ankles, smirked at her. "Hello, gorgeous," he greeted, grabbing her hand and kissing it.

Lyra was unimpressed. She took her hand back. "I'm a lesbian," she signed.

Namor put his hands up in defense. "Many apologies." He cleared his throat. "I seek help for a... problem. Surface Dwellers are on the verge of finding Atlantis through a threat Xavier cannot tell me about. That cannot happen," he said.

"And how can I help with that?" Lyra asked, looking at Charles.

"I doubt my friend here would get along with the boys," Charles said vaguely. Lyra narrowed her eyes, but Charles did not offer any clarification. "You may want to ready that electrolysis ability of yours," he suggested.

Lyra stared at him. "You've got to be kidding me," she signed.

Underwater. That was not somewhere Lyra ever expected to explore. She was following Namor to Atlantis, his kingdom. She had gotten little warning for this - she blamed Charles for that - but to his credit, Namor had been kind this entire time. He was a little touchy, though for right reason. He could not have her drift too far from him in fear of her getting attacked by an underwater creature. The sharks would surely sense her abnormal electromagnetic field.

Her electrokinesis did help her here, however. Using an ability called electrolysis, she could separate the atoms around her, splitting the water from hydrogen and oxygen. She never found much use for it before, but she was glad now. This was likely why Charles chose her for this, though Lyra was certain Ororo could do the same.

Charles, of course, had connections. He got a boat to take them to Greenland, and from there Lyra and Namor swam. It took about two hours to swim there. By the time the city of Atlantis came into view, Lyra's muscles were burning. The water pressure certainly did not help.

Atlantis was a sight to behold. All the structures, the buildings, were in a traditional Greek style, somehow spotless and without cracks despite the city being underwater for centuries. There were statues of water gods like Poseidon. Rocks surrounded the edge. Fish, sharks and dolphins swam around without a care in the world. The other Atlanteans did not look like Namor. They all had blue, pink or purple skin.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Namor said, taking her hand to lead her into the city so she could see it up close. Lyra could not respond. She was in awe. It was hard to believe a place this beautiful existed on Earth. A place untouched by humanity. Lyra did not blame Namor for wanting to keep them away from his kingdom. "Shall we discuss further over a meal?"
