CHAPTER THIRTEEN: Successor

-----

Thirteen years.

Kim Rok Soo was alone for most of his life. He lost his parents at five, got abused by his uncle until he was fifteen, then got ostracized by the kids at the orphanages until he was finally able to earn for himself.

He was alone, and he was fine.

Then he almost died at twenty.

He had a part time job at a restaurant that turned into mere rubble from the moment that monsters evaided the peaceful earth who used to only had humans, plants and animals as living creatures. Kim Roksoo was one of the human beings, who was treated as an animal and was suffering like the plants in the environment as he grew older.

But a hand reached out to him from above the rubble.

That same hand was the reason why he rose as a team leader in his thirties.

"Hey, can you hear me down there?"

Then, a hazel eyes met his auburn as they applied in the same company.

"Mister, What's your name? I'm Choi Jung Soo!"

Kim Rok Soo got used to being alone, but during those times, he wasn't lonely.

Months of being together, the trio always had each other with them. It came to the point of being weird if one of them don't have each other in sight.

During those times, Kim Rok Soo wasn't alone, and he had people he considered a family.

And then,

They left.

Lee Soo Hyuk smiled as he left everything to him, while Choi Jung Soo died in his arms.

Choi Jung Soo died in his arms.

Jung Soo, his Jung Soo, died in his arms.

So, why?

Why is he here?

He shouldn't be here.

This place- This rotten world! He shouldn't be here. He should be somewhere peaceful, somewhere safe and somewhere war isn't lurking. Unlike this rotten world where it's going to be filled with dead mana soon enough, where dead mana bombs and sacrifices were going to be made while heroes try to stop those from getting worse.

Choi Jung Soo should be safe.

Roksoo glared at the adult dragon flying above him. Its reddish-brown eyes emotionlessly staring down at him, calculating, mocking him.

'Look here, dongsaeng! I, Your Hyung, am going to show you the art of the sword, Choi Clan Style!'

"Motherfucking gods."

Roksoo gritted his teeth. Gods do whatever they want, and Roksoo is always at the center of it. It's always the gods fault. He remembered their father telling him about how they are the existence closest to nature, and how the gods can communicate with them in the form of revelations.

But Roksoo despised the gods.

'If there was one, then why did they not grant my wish?'

'Did they exist just for show?'

'Fucking useless!'

He felt his paws getting wet and only then did he realize his tears.

He was angry, he was so angry that his body didn't know how to properly expressed it. It converted as tears, and he learned that that only happen if the body wanted to protect itself from possible harm from outside forces if that anger got out.
