"What do we do now?", I asked, trying, but unable to conceal the shakiness of my voice. The more I thought about possible outcomes of this mess, the more hopeless everything seemed.
Taehyung had actually gone too far this time. I would have never put it past him to actually have the courage to publish an article like this - especially under Yoongi's name. Moreover, we didn't even have enough proof yet.
I followed Yoongi into the underground garage, passing several vehicles. He took one of the keys hanging on the wall beside the door and pressed a button on it that made a dark SUV click open and its headlights light up. It had darkened windows and a rather sleek look to it.
"First we'll drive to Taehyung's house", Yoongi explained as he threw the passenger's seat open and helped me get in. He slammed it shut when I was seated inside and walked over to the other side to throw that door open as well and get in himself.
"After I'm done beating him up, we'll drive to a safe spot and contact my lawyer.""You won't actually fight him, will you?", I asked as he revved the engine and the car made a deep sound. "And... you have a lawyer?"
He paused for a moment, waiting for the garage doors to open up. "Of course I do."
"Good to know", I nodded, clutching to the door handle as Yoongi pressed the gas pedal and the car almost flew out of the garage, up the lane and out onto the street.
It would have been an understatement to say that Yoongi was driving fast - I would have normally screamed at him to slow down, but at that point I understood that we had to get away from the mansion and get to Taehyung before he got into any trouble. I felt sick. Not necessarily because of the driving, but because I didn't want to think about the trouble we were all in. Why hadn't Taehyung said anything? Why had he decided to be so quick about this and do this without telling us? We would have immediately told him that this was the most stupid and reckless idea any human being would have ever come up with.
Then again, maybe that was the exact reason he hadn't told us anything. But why put Yoongi's name as the publisher of the article? To shift the blame away from himself?
I looked over to see Yoongi's stern face and his white knuckles gripping the steering wheel. I gently touched his shoulder, not to distract him too much, but I wanted to show him that I was there.
"I'm sorry this turned out this way", he said. "I wouldn't be this stressed if it was only my name in that article. Why did that moron have to put you in there too?"
I scoffed. "My name is probably the most irrelevant thing about that article. I'll hardly get into any trouble for that. You're the one listed as the author."
"Still", he sighed. "We're out of options now. He didn't even give us enough time to gather tangible proof, but instead went out on his own and tried playing the detective. All of the things that he wrote may be enough to start an investigation, but they aren't enough of proving anyone guilty just yet. Thanks to Taehyung, my father now has enough time to destroy any legitimate proof before the police come knocking."
"You think he could manage that? What about the pictures you took on your phone?", I asked.
Yoongi shrugged. "There isn't any proof that those pictures are real. I could have just as easily forged those transactions and pretended to take pictures of them. If Taehyung had waited for us to find a way.... Damn it!"
I gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Let's take one thing at a time, okay? Are we close to Taehyung's house?"
"Almost there", Yoongi replied and slowed down the car to take a turn towards the coast and the beach houses located there. It was close to Hoseok's house, where we had been to that New Year's Eve party last winter.
