Later at dinner, another catastrophe struck.
Mr. Min, Yoongi, my dad, and I were there, along with some of the guests that had stayed at the house for a bit longer. Taehyung had gone off with some friends into town, including Hoseok. That pretty girl, Amber, from the pool was there. Apparently her father was one of Mr. Min's business partners in America.
She had positioned herself right next to Yoongi as soon as she had gotten there and he only threw me an apologetic glance. I ignored him and didn't really talk to anyone while we had dinner. He had made me angry by avoiding me and I had promised myself to not give in. It was only during dessert that I had to listen in on the conversation between the fathers.
"Have you seen the article on the party? I'd say it was a success", one of the men said to Mr. Min. "They really had a lot of good pictures."
"Did you see the one with me in it? My face looks terrible", one of them laughed. "Can't believe that's published."
"I'm sorry, there are pictures from the party?", I nudged my dad.
"Oh yeah, it just came out today in a local magazine. There's a picture of you too", he told me.
However, his tone seemed rather apologetic. One of the men had the magazine in his bag and handed it over to me.It was a local one from town and as the Min family was quite famous around here, and Taehyung's family pretty much had the press under control, it was only natural that the party would make the front page. Yoongi's dad had probably payed for it, though...
"Young, rich son of famous Min Company CEO with his newest love interest" said one of the middle pages with a big picture of Yoongi and I standing by the pool that night. "Real love or just a rebound?"
My hand gripped the page I was holding tightly as I read a part of the article. I felt sick. They had basically written about Yoongi's dating life and speculations on whether he would be single again soon. They had labelled me as "average". That really struck something inside me.
Yoongi studied my face across the table as I focused on the magazine. I then glanced up at him in disbelief."Don't take it too seriously", he tried to comfort me with a slight smile. "They had to write about something, so just let it be."
Ha! Of course. He had read the article and hadn't told me anything about it! Did he think he was sparing me the embarassment by doing so? Well he wasn't.
The girl, Amber, then tried to involve Yoongi in a conversation with her father, who enjoyed praising his daughter more than anything. It was sickening. The worst part was that he smiled and kept nodding and talking as if he didn't have a care in the world. He seemed like the true son of a CEO. And I? I seemed like a bland, average girl, waiting for him to finish talking so I wouldn't be completely excluded.
I tried to not care, but I just couldn't. I had just had enough of this. I didn't want to be in this place anymore, neither did I want to sit here and let myself be embarrassed and downgraded by that article or some random girl who thought she could flirt with Yoongi. All I wanted was to go back to Seoul and have everything return back to normal."Hey, what's wrong?", Yoongi asked, leaning across the table so no one else could hear. He seemed genuinely concerned, but I wasn't in the mood for his sympathy. I was fed up for tonight.
What's wrong? Everything. Everything about this stupid place and the way he acted was wrong. I just shook my head, not wanting to be difficult, but my gaze uncontrollably wandered over to Amber, next to him.
