Scoffing a laugh, Heidi snatched the knife out of Jeremy's hands and opted for cutting it up herself, realising he had managed to make a mess out of cutting up a cucumber. He merely chuckled and moved towards the fridge, rummaging around to find something to pair with what little food they currently had right now. They wanted food for watching the movie and believed that making it themselves would be much better, although it was starting to be evident that neither of them could cook as well as they expected.

"All right, your options are, drumroll please," Jeremy called out and Heidi jokingly tapped the counter with her hands, "roast beef or turkey?"

"What about, both?" Heidi announced with wide eyes as Jeremy clicked his fingers excitedly.

"All right, love your style." Jeremy clapped as she mockingly bowed at him. "Pass me the bread please?"

"Okay, your highness." Heidi replied, turning around to grab said ingredient for their sandwich. As soon as she turned around, he looked at the knife in his hand and put the plan into motion, slicing the skin on his hand with the sharp tool. Immediately the smell of blood filled her senses as she turned around to face him, stopping and staring at him in horror. "Jeremy, what the fuck?"

Heidi could feel the veins under her eyes pop out as the once whites of her eyes turned red with bloodshot. She had control over her urges, but seeing fresh blood like that, it was practically an automatic response. The girl kept her head lowered as she grabbed the towel from beside her, handing it to him silently.

"You got a problem with blood, Heidi?" Jeremy asked when he realised the girl was doing everything she could to avoid looking him in the eye. She shook her head, gritting her teeth as she held out the towel once again, the boy ignoring it as he took a step towards her. "What's the matter?"

With every step he took towards her, Heidi found her nails digging into her palms, forcing herself to remain in control. He held out his hand, showcasing the blood for her to see, which made things ten times worse. If he was anyone else, she'd have snapped his neck and ran as far away from him as possible, yet, she couldn't find it in herself to do that.

"It's just blood, Heidi." Jeremy reminded her, raising a brow at how freaked out she'd become.

Losing all control, she grabbed him by the throat, Vamp-speeding him into the nearest wall. Her fangs were out as she hissed in his face, pure anger radiating from the girl. "What the fuck is wrong with you, Jeremy?" Heidi questioned, fully aware her eyes had become bloodshot again.

"I knew it." Jeremy mumbled in shock as he held out his hand towards her. "Go for it."

Heidi looked at the crimson near the wound and then back at Jeremy, finally gaining control of her sense. "Have you lost your mind?" She asked, loosening her grip on him and standing away from him.

Before either of them could respond, the front door opened and the sound of Jenna's voice filled their ears. Jeremy rushed to greet his aunt while Heidi used this chance to slip away unnoticed, blending into the night as regret and guilt filled her as well as anxiety at Jeremy's new discovery.

Why was she so stupid?

As soon as Heidi returned back to the house, Anna began questioning her about where she'd been and why she'd not answered any of her many calls. Worry and anxiety flooded her as she immediately feared for the worst. Heidi was her best friend and she didn't know what she'd do if anything ever happened to her. Life without her was something she never wanted to think about.

It was only when she noticed that Heidi's lip trembled did she stop the scolding and allow her eyes to soften. Not even asking what's wrong, she wrapped her arms around her friend and felt her heart break at the soft sound of her cries. All she heard was her whispering how stupid she was and how she should've known better.

It was very very rare she heard Heidi cry but when she did it was horrible and she wanted nothing more than to harm anyone who had caused such agony. Only when the girl calmed down did she get the full story, how Jeremy Gilbert had discovered the truth about what she was. A few more threats towards Jeremy followed and Anna had managed to coax the girl to sleep for a little while.

Even if it was only five seconds, sleep was still sleep.
