If you could travel back in time to fix something, would you?
Why not?
You could've fixed it if you'd just done something, anything.
But you were too busy caring about yourself.
You never cared about me, about anyone else.
And you never will.
That's just how you are.
That's why I'm dead.
I'm ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.
And it's your fault, Reiko.
🇮 🇹'🇸 🇾 🇴 🇺 🇷 🇫 🇦 🇺 🇱 🇹 .
Reiko woke up suddenly, sweating and crying uncontrollably. She hasn't had nightmares like this for a long while now. These were the worst type, he looked so real, she could barely differentiate the dream from reality.
Her half-asleep state made it even worse, shadows of him appearing in the corners of her vision.
She clutched her shirt in agony and nearly tore it off, thinking that would help her breathe. She threw her blanket to the floor and stumbled from her bed to her door.
She needed to get out. She didn't know where to but she couldn't stay in that room.
She walked down to the common area with shallow breaths and blurry vision, barely seeing two feet in front of her. The world spun around her, she had to stop walking several times so she wouldn't fall.
No nightmare had ever had that impact on her. She's never felt this way, so she didn't know what to do. She reached the commons and halted at one of the couches. She was confused.
So confused she didn't notice that someone else was in the room. She didn't even hear him saying anything.
"-mi! Goddamn pixie, what the hell is going on?" His voice faded in as he shook her shoulder. "Huh? I don't - I don't know! Stop shaking me." She shrugged his hands away.
"What happened? You look like shit." Reiko's vision cleared slightly, she saw who was in front of her now, who was Bakugou. His brows were furrowed, but she couldn't read his face at all. "I just had a nightmare."
"Looked more like a night terror but whatever you say. What was it about?" He crossed his arms in front of his chest. "Doesn't matter. Why are you up?" She changed the subject. "...Couldn't sleep." He lied.
He also had a nightmare, but he wouldn't tell anyone. Seemed stupid.
"Go back to sleep, pixie. As far as I know, you need it to use your shitty quirk." Bakugou also changed the subject so they wouldn't have to stand in awkward silence. "Yeah, like I'll sleep after that. I'll just go study or whatever." Reiko rubbed her eyes.
"Damn, what was it about?" He asked again. It piqued his interest now since Reiko seemingly didn't have much to have nightmares about, nor did anything seem to bother her. A heavy sigh left her lips as she contemplated answering his question or not.
"I wasn't always an only child, I had a twin brother. He was quirkless and was bullied into suicide. It was about him." Her voice came out barely above a whisper, but it was loud enough to hear the hurt in it.
For the first time, Bakugou's first thought wasn't to make fun of her or her brother. He fell quiet, he thought back to Midoriya, and what could've gone so differently if he made a different decision. The guilt of his previous actions hit him with a new wave of emotions. He couldn't quite tell what it was, but it wasn't good.
Without thinking, Bakugou pulled Reiko closer to himself and wrapped his arms securely around her. It was the first time he'd hugged someone other than his mother and by the time he realized it, it was too late.
"Don't mess my shirt up." He retorted in a joking matter. "I'll wash it." She sniffed and wrapped her arms around his waist. Something in that hug comforted both of them. For the first time in a while, Reiko felt safe. She felt her worries fading away and her tears drying up sooner than she expected.
Bakugou, on the other hand, found himself at ease. He wasn't angry, he wasn't sad, he was just calm.
"Thanks,...I'll Uh, I won't bother you any longer." She awkwardly let go and walked off.
For a moment, Bakugou swore missed her warmth. He caught himself just in time to snap out of it and go back to his room.
This was new for both of them; Bakugou never thought he'd be any good at comforting people. Reiko thought she didn't need any comforting. She was always fine on her own. If she wasn't she'd just talk to Mina. She didn't think Bakugou would be the type to care, either because of his mindset and how he usually was.
