Tshisi

My mom looks at me briefly like she is expecting me to say something. Ndivhuwo's mother just called my mother's cooking plain and not worth being kept at her table. Ndivhuwo tried to calm his mother down, after my mom didnt take it so well and asked my father to leave. My dad didnt agree to that however he complimented her food and breakjng the awkward silence that was build from the scene.

The way my mom looked at me after that almost made me cry, because i know she wanted to walk out so badly but she believe this is more for me than it is about her. In a way that a few insults wont push her to her breaking point, but i wish she had left. Maybe it would have given me the courage to get up and walk out as well. Khangwelo however just continued eating like nothing is happening around her.

"Are you going to be okay?" Ndivhuwo asks as I walk out the house making my way to my father's car.

I nod, with a faint smile trying to hide my true feelings that i doubt he sees.

"I love you" he says and kiss me

My mind wonders to the incidence that just took place and if whether all this is worth it.

Will i ever be at peace with his family, i have loved him for years and i have been patient with him but few times i fail and that is when he snaps and push me away. Like he cant deal with me. Like i am not what he signed up for and he wants out.

"My mom is mad..." I say

Ndivhuwo lets go of my hand.

"I just said i love you Tshisi...and that's all you have to say?" He asks annoyed

I reach for his hand, but he shakes my hand off.

"I am sorry, is just that my family is really doing their best so that i can be happy. The least i can do is do my best to make them happy too. I cant be here confessing the love you know i have for you, after your mother just insulted my family and you did nothing about it." I say annoyed as well

"And you expected me to say what? My mom complimented your mother's cooking not insulted your family." Ndivhuwo defensively

"And that makes it okay? And for your information in my family if you hurt one you hurt all of us. So your mom didnt just insult my mother, she insulted me too." I add

He keeps his eyes on me like he is thinking.

"What do you want Tshisi, an apology?" He asks now serious

Intimidating, but i will hold my ground.

"Isn't it obvious?" I ask him

He smiles as if he is in disbelief.
"Who do you think you are speaking to me like that?" He takes my hand in his aggressively

"Your fiancee Ndivhuwo" i grit out

"No fiancee of mine will speak to me like that..." He tighten his grip

"And no fiance of mine will allow his mother to insult my family and do nothing about it." i keep my eyes on him

He is angry, well so am i and i am not going to let him intimidate me. He lets go of my hand and walk inside leaving me alone.

When i got to the car no one said anything, I know they witnessed everything but still choose to be silent. And of all times Enzo decides to call, after the day i just had, in a car with my family. I decline the call and sit silently at the back with Khangwelo who is texting nonstop on her phone. No one is saying anything, all the way home.

My parents walked straight to their bedroom, so did Khangwelo who was on her phone gigling with a man. I am now in my room waiting for Ndivhuwo to call but the only call i get is from Enzo...I decline again then put my phone on silent. If he wont call me then i will not waste my precious nap on him.
