~~HUENINGKAI'S POV—

The stranger laughed nervously.

« Come on, I'm not a sasaeng, what are you talking about—»
« Then what are you doing here ? Stop lying. » I snapped.
The woman remained silent, visibly not knowing what to answer. I was about to get her out of here somehow, when Soobin talked instead.

~~No one's POV—

« Hyuka, calm down. She's not a crazy fan, she's a friend of mine. »
Kai's eyes were wide open. « Why didn't you tell me earlier ? Oh god, I'm so sorry for talking to you this way ! » He said to Soobin's friend, looking panicked.

« Don't apologize, it's my fault, the tallest said while standing up and heading towards the two. It took me some time to realize it was you, » he rubbed his nape embarrassingly. « Hello, Chaeryeong. » He hugged her.

« Hello Soobin, she greeted whilst reciprocating the hug on her tippy toes. I'm sorry for all the trouble, but I thought you would recognize me. I mean, we were best friends for years. » While pulling away, she smacked his shoulder, giving the taller a glare. He yelped an "ouch" and giggled.

« But you changed a lot ! he sulked. You've lost your chubby cheeks, you've grown taller, and you've even died your hair in red ! » She rolled her eyes. « I know I've gotten more beautiful, she said while pushing her red strands of hair back, but it doesn't excuse the fact that it took you five whole minutes to recognize me ! » She tried to look mean, but failed to as her expression became soft, noticing that Soobin's ears turned red in embarrassment.

As for HueningKai, who felt like they totally forgot about his presence, cleared his throat.
« Ah, yes, Chaeryeong, let me introduce you to my friend HueningKai. He's our little maknae, he explained while smiling fondly. And Kai, this is Chaeryeong, my highschool bestie. » The two exchanged greetings, before Soobin invited Chaeryeong to join them.

« I would love to, but I'm afraid I already have a rendezvous with someone else, she smiled apologetically. But we could share a meal another day ? » Soobin thought for a second, before he remembered his mother's words.

« Are you free tomorrow ? My mom will reunite the whole family to eat at her house, you should come too ! »
« I will check my agenda, but I should be free. I'll text you in case I can't make it—»She stopped for a moment, and realized that since Soobin is an idol, he must've changed his phone number.

« Oh, about that, I have a new phone. I don't use this number anymore. Let me give you my new number, just a sec. »
They exchanged numbers, before it was time for Chaeryeong to get to her rendezvous. By the time HueningKai and Soobin sat down, the food was already cold.

~~KAI'S POV—

« You two seem very close. For how long have you known each other ? » I asked as we finished the remaining food.

« Wait, lemme calculate— 8 years, maybe ? I remember that we absolutely hated sciences and maths. So we used to skip chemistry and maths classes together to get a boba and eat sweet bread. » He reminisced about his high school years, a smile lingering on his lips.
« We got caught once, and I recall that our teacher was so disappointed that she didn't talk to us for a week ! » He giggled. « Even though I've never been a fan of school, it was never boring with her. »

He looked down, and his smile vanished. « I wish we could hang out more often. »

I smiled weakly before changing the topic.

« ... kai... Hyuka ? YA ! »
I got startled by my hyung's sudden scream, as we were walking back to his house. I'm not used to it since Soobin is usually very composed and quiet.

« What's the matter ? You've been spacing out a lot since you met Chaeryeong. Did she scare you or something ? »
I couldn't look in his eyes, a sense of shame growing in my heart. My mind was filled with wicked thoughts, all about one particular person.

« It's nothing like that. I'm just ... anticipating our next comeback, I guess. »
I replied, but Soobin didn't look convinced. « You're the type to get anxious right before the m/v release, but if you say so. » He held a skeptical expression on his face, but nevertheless he didn't interrogate me any longer.

I released a sigh of relief internally. At least he doesn't bother me any further, because I cannot bring myself to tell him the genuine reason as to why I'm confused. Well, confused is not the best word to describe how I'm feeling.

A more accurate adjective would be ...
Frustrated.
Despondent.
Acquisitive.

But why ? Is it because he kept smiling to her ? Because she stole the spotlight, grabbed all of his attention, and it's the first time he doesn't pay heed to me ?
Or is it something else, something more meaningful, such as ... ?

The next day ...

« Are you all dressed up ? »
« Yes ! »
« Then come out ! »

The bathroom door opened, revealing a young appealing man (aka: my beautiful self).
« Oh my, you're very handsome in those clothes ! I made a good decision by buying these clothes for you yesterday. » Soobin said, as he admired me.

I was wearing a simple, yet enhancing outfit, consisting of a bright blue shirt and white slim pants. My fingers were decorated with silver rings, while my neck had a chain necklace tied around it. This look gave me confidence, on top of making me look more mature.

It was then my turn to appreciate Soobin's outfit.
Soobin choose to go for something colorful, thus he picked a orange crocheted cardigan, tucked a simple white t-shirt underneath and paired it with blue pants. He gave a soft vibe, quite the opposite from me.

« What do you think about it ? » Asked Hyung. « I picked it myself. »
« Even if I get to see you in any existing style of clothing at work, I still prefer it when you chose your own clothes. » Was my answer. The older looked away, smiling shyly.

« Come on, your family must be waiting for us. » I said, as I grabbed his arm to drag him to the living room, where his brother, sister and mother were getting impatient.

There's no way this gurl can get my Hyung's attention today. I got the best outfit, I got the cuteness, I got it all.
What is interesting about her anyways ?
