Chapter 8

Shane and I were just hanging out in my room when I suddenly remembered what I wanted ask him

"Shane." I said quickly

"Evelyn." He said matching my tone

"I remember what I wanted to ask."

"Okay shoot."

"What were you and my dad talking about downstairs?"

Shane's cheeks went deep red at this question like it was something embarrassing 

"Oh, that. It was nothing, don't worry about it." He replied

"Anyway did you do you're homework for English? It's due on Monday." He continued changing the topic

"Yeah I did. What about you?" I asked a little iffy about how quickly he wanted to change the topic

Shane's POV: 

"I did" 

I didn't really want to keep secrets from Eves but I think if I told her what Dave and I talked about I would die of shame and embarrassment.

A few hours earlier

"Hey Shane can I talk to you for a bit? You're not in trouble don't worry. I just want to talk." Dave said turning to me 

Shit. He definitely knew. 

"Sure Dave." I replied calmly giving a worried glance at Evelyn

Was he going to stop me from being friends with her? Was he going to tell me to back off? Am I in trouble and he just didn't want Eves to worry? 

A million thoughts were going through my head while we walked into the home studio about how I could explain why we were cuddled together. 

"Shane." Dave said sternly snapping me out of my trance

"Yes." I said looking at him trying my best not to sound scared

"If you like Evelyn then just ask her out." He said

Wait. What? That is not what I was expecting.

"What?" I asked still in shock

"I know you like her kiddo. You aren't as subtle as you think you are."

"Oh." 

"Shane I'm not angry with you and I hope you know I never would be over stuff like this. You can't control how you feel and besides you treat her well and that is all I can ask for. But if you really do like her stop waiting for any sign that she likes you back cause as long as you like her you will miss all of them and trust me there is a lot." He said

"Wait how do you know that she likes me?" I questioned not believeing that there were any signs

"She isn't subtle about it either. The way she acts around you is completely different to the way she acts around others."

"How so?" 

"Well for one she never wants to leave your side. She also gets very easily flustered around you and whenever you come over she sprints down the stairs to give you a hug, you are the only one she does that to." He replied listing off the signs that I had completely missed

"I didn't realize that." I stated more so to myself than to Dave

"That's what I mean. As long as you like her you are going to be looking for the bigger signs and missing all of the smaller ones." 

"What should I do?" I asked 

"That's up to you Shane but you better make up your mind before she moves on."
