"The meal was delicious, Lily." Easton complimented when he saw her getting out of the bathroom, "Even Mr. Thorne was impressed with your cooking."

Lily passed Easton a tight smile, walking down towards the vanity she sat in front of the mirror and started applying body lotion.

Easton found her silence very odd. Lily was the kind of person who becomes giddy when given the compliment but the way she was acting at that moment was out of character.

To think clearly, Easton realised that Lily had become stiff and rigid ever since she returned from the kitchen to serve the dessert. Easton was busy entertaining his guest that he did not notice what could be the reason behind her unexpected silence.

Whatever it was, Easton tried to make her mood better hence continued to praise her, "And the cheese cake, Lily. God! You make the best cheesecakes, you should open a bakery or something." Easton was not lying though. He loved her cooking. Lily really was a good baker.

In response Lily just hummed, making Easton shut his mouth as her response made him feel stupid. He did not like it though. She was lost in her thoughts and had not uttered a word since Alastair, Adam and Sarah left.

Her quiet self was making him worried. Lily was usually talkative when around him. He could not pinpoint what might be the reason that had gotten her upset. Sighing loudly, Easton got up from the bed and made his way toward her.

He stood behind her and put his hands on her shoulder, "What happened, Lily?" He asked, using the softest tone as if speaking with a toddler, "You are unexceptionally quiet ever since the guest left, are you alright?"

Lily raised her eyelids and looked at the mirror that portrayed their reflection and stared at it. She raised her hands and placed them on top of his as his warmth gave her surety that she was safe. His presence put her at ease.

"Easton, can I ask you something?" She continued upon getting a nod of encouragement from him, "Is Alastair Thorne one of your important clients?"

Her question had him confused. Lily had never taken interest in his work life before, had never even asked him that it was exactly what he did for a living, so having her curious about his client made him really wonder what could cause the sudden change.

Easton, having felt her eyes on him, answered nonetheless, "He is not one of them, Lily." Easton started, his words putting her at ease that was until he completed, "He is the only and the most important client I have, working for such a man would open all the other doors for me that I have been knocking on till now."

A bile rose up in her throat as she saw his eyes twinkled with happiness and joy and for the sake of his happiness, Lily knew she had to endure the pain she had felt in her chest. She could not tell him what Alastair did or who he was because it would cause him to lose the opportunity that he was working hard to grab. She could not do that to him.

"Why do you ask though?" His question pulled her out of the trance she was lost in and shook her head left to right before speaking, "No, I was just wondering what if he did not like the food? It could impact your deal, right?"

"Are you hearing yourself, Lily?" Easton exclaimed, buying her lies as he leaned closer to her and placed a soft kiss on her forehead, "There is no one on this earth who would not like your food. You are the best, Lily." She smiled at him, this time genuinely. Receiving praises from him was what she indeed liked the most.
