The rules were easy, like a game a kid makes up to play randomly on the street with their friends. All players throw a dice into a cup and slams it on the table, only to have everyone try to guess if the others' die landed on an even or odd number.
Kirari and I sat across from each other. I stared at her in the eyes and she smirked back at me as Runa gave us both a metal cup and one dice. "Don't worry about breaking this one, Michi. I was told about your strength, so I came prepared.~" She commented, running around to the side of the table. "Before starting, let's start the betting! How much are you putting in, President?~" "Oh, there's no question. All in~" Before I could speak, she raised a finger with a thought in mind. She hummed, "As well as putting that in, how about I make it even more compelling for you? I don't want you walking out on me again, leaving me aching for more~ As well as all my votes, I'll give you a seat on the Momobami clan, in the Momobami family. My seat." My face never showed it, but my heart started to speed up hearing that. She would never lie about this, especially in a gamble, so...if I win I can move onto phase 2.
My eyes stayed lifeless, but my body slightly shook with the possibility of winning this. No, I have to focus. There's not a hundred percent chance I can win, so I need to simply focus on the now and not the small future.
"How will I ever match your bet now that you've raised it above simple votes?" I gestured to our stack of votes. She grinned, "Why are you asking a question you already know the answer to?" She was right. Sighing, I sat up straight, "I bet all of my votes, my place in the election, and...stand right beside Rei. My whole life will be to the Student Council, and my name stripped from me and my family. I will belong to you and your clan, Kirari Momobami." Runa laughed loudly and pointed at me while Kirari smiled large with satisfaction. Runa kept laughing, "Just imagining you an old granny as you walk around this school, makes my face hurt!!~" After her laughing fit was over, she sighed and let us both officially start.
I picked up my cup, feeling it under my fingers. Cold to the touch. Kirari picked hers up as well, quickly getting the die too. Looking down at my dice, I took off my glasses, "I will admit that being here has taught me a lot I've never thought to see anywhere else, good and bad. This place is truly like a different dimension." "I'm glad that you've been impacted so much by the school, in a good way, of course. Now that I think about it, I think this is a good thing, what happened to you in the past to make you like this. You already had a scholarship to come here, and if you have came any sooner...I don't need to spell it out for you." My jaw clenched hearing her speak about that. While I never would admit it in that context, she has a point. Grandpa wanted me to come here because of his status, and if I wasn't prepared then I would've stood right be Nanami Tsubomi. I calmed, looking off around the room, mainly at her large fish tank.
"Maybe," I started. "On the surface, we do think a little alike. In some terms, of course." She giggled, letting me see Sayaka's growing jealousy of our conversation. Kirari raised her hand, gesturing to me, "I have crafted this little sanctuary of survival of the fittest to live in, and you will bathe in the new world you crave greatly. That is rather similar, isn't it?" As she said that, she brought up the cup in one hand and the die in her other one held between her index and middle finger. I nodded, holding mine up the same way. With a swift throw, our die landed in the pot and we slammed it on the table, our eyes never leaving each other.
Her hand slowly slid down the cup, complimenting her blue nails perfectly. "If the future was so vague it meant...." "Perhaps that she was destined never to see it," I finished her quoting. I shook my head, "I can guarantee that you love this game from the moment Runa proposed it." "How can you be so sure?" I felt the urge to smirk at her, but quickly suppressed it with a surprise at that feeling in the first place. I explained, "A high risk for a low return. You want a challenge, someone you can finally be up to your expectations. With a game that has a probability rate of 50%, it only means one thing. A sudden death challenge." All she did was smirk at me, slightly leaning forward, "Let's have some fun, Michi~" We both called each other's guess; even. "Oh wow, the same answer? Alright then, reveal those dice!~" Runa announced. We did just that, raising up the cup and revealing our numbers.
Runa ran over to each end of the table to look at our numbers. She smiled, "Michi has a two. The President has a six. We have a tie!!" I stood up, collecting my votes back into my bag as Kirari stood up as well to walk over to me. "I assume you're still a fatalist then," I commented. She chuckled, "With this match, there's no choice now, right? I have to thank you for this match, I did need this." As I answered, my gaze was stolen by Sayaka, she was glaring at me hard with hands rolled up into fists. Gazing back into Kirari's eyes, I bow slightly, "My pleasure, President." Having all my votes and seeing the vein in Sayaka's forehead almost pop, I turned to leave. "Have fun gambling with Yumeko. Your family is having good fun with her," I remarked, closing the door behind me.
I came across Ryota reading on my way back to the classroom, and apparently Yumeko and Itsuki were in a election gamble with Kaede and some of the Momobami clan. That means I have more time to rack up votes and targets, I can deal with that. The day passed with many defeats and some losses, but still passed like all the other days. Yumeko returned with a grand story to tell about the gamble, but I excused myself to the hospital wing. Coming up onto the door, I opened it to see Kaede up and walking. He turned to me, standing there and supposedly waiting for me to say something. "You haven't changed a single bit," Kaede pushed up his glasses with a smirk. I shook my head, "You haven't been out for that long, so nothing has really changed at all apart from the election."
"Were you coming to visit me a final time?" "More so say my farewell to you. Looking a bit more lively, this time should be perfect for that." I walked over, sitting on his hospital bed. He collected the last of his things, "Someone has convinced me to keep going." "I've heard. She's been with you the most actually." I felt his eyes on me, hopefully and somewhat pitiful. Looking back at him, I saw him looking back at his house pet tag that was completely untouched. With a sigh, he took the tag and started to put it on, but I grabbed the chain and pulled it off of him quickly. "What are you doing?" He fumed. "No matter what anyone thinks, I still need to follow-" "Those rules don't apply to you anymore, because you follow mine." He did want to rebuttal, but those words finally processed for him. Follow my rules?
The doors burst open, and looking back we found Ibara Obami with a huge grin. "Hey Shrimp," He nodded to me. "I saw you walking down this way, and wanted to mess with you a bit. This talk sounded pretty serious. You getting chummy with each other behind Itsuki's back?~" Kaede ignored him, looking only at me, "What do you mean 'your rules.'? Even if I didn't have to follow school procedure, Itsuki is the one who has my...now destroyed life plan." "Did you even look to see the words on the page?" I answered, taking a piece of it form my pocket. Handing it to him, his eyes widened to see that it was nothing but place holder text. A fake. His head slowly went to look up at me, seeing the real life plan in my hand. Fully intact and prefect condition. Ibara smirked at this, taking in context clues. "Oh shit, you got fooled," He laughed at Kaede.
I asserted to his surprised face, "Remember that you played against Yumeko, Itsuki, and me. When Yumeko went to transfer your life to Itsuki, I went back to have it transferred to me instead. You were originally going to be a main part of my 2nd plan, but now after everything you've moved to the more minor plans in my drawer. In other words...." Ibara got behind me, hugging me tightly to put his head on my shoulder with an evil smirk. We both said at the same time, "Your freedom is now limited."
He sighed, looking down at his hand and stuff, thinking. After a minute, he looked back up with a fire in his eye that grew massively...until I put up my hand. "That being said," I stopped him before he tried to argue. "I'm letting you do what you want." "What?" Ibara and Kaede gasped. I stood up, slightly pushing Ibara out of the way. I started to elucidate, "Your life in my hands as of now, and I'm telling you to live as you want. Go where you want, meet who you want, marry who you want....it doesn't matter to me. The only thing is that whenever I call upon you, answer. Whenever I need you, come running." I sauntered to the door, sliding the door back. "Goodbye Kaede Manyuda. You will now live your life in my book with the judgement 'Undecided.' " Ibara walked out with me.
"You're harder to understand then Miyo and Miri sometimes," Ibara scoffed, walking away. "Ibara," I caught his attention. "Would you like some dinner?" His eyebrow quirked up, walking back up to me. Towering over me, he smirked and looked me in the eye. After a second to stare at me, he backed up and shrugged, "Let's just hope your cooking isn't as lifeless as you." He walked past me, letting me walk beside him out of the building.
