I look at River as he straps Mae onto a stretcher, his face scrunched with distaste. Fisher stands near him with a pen in his hand.

"The dealer's name is Jake Manne," Nicolas informs me, walking over to where I am.

I watch Fisher get his hand slapped by River for trying to draw on Mae's face before turning my attention to Nicolas. "Any relation?"

"None," he answers.

Mae gets lifted into one of the organization's van, thankfully not ours. Frannie must have notified them to send another car out.

It was an easy mission, but almost as disturbing as any other.

First time meeting my girlfriend's mother was when she had her mouth wrapped around a dick in exchange for some damn drugs.

Alia doesn't want me to hurt her mother, so I won't. But I am gonna judge the fuck out of her.

I return my eyes to River and Fisher, but order Nicolas, "Start the car."

"You got it, bossman," he nods and walks off as a woman makes her way over to me, her black jacket labeled KUAA (Kingston United Assassin Association).

"Sir?" she says when she reaches me.

I glance at her. The fuck does she want?

"Anita Briar," she introduces, offering her hand for me to shake. When I don't move, she says, "Okay then. I figured I'd let you know that we are moving Jake Manne to a facility in New York. We suggest taking Mae Quinn there as well."

"Ok," I manage as I walk away.

She calls after me. "We're taking her with us now."

I turn back around. "No the fuck you're not."

Whatever the fuck her name is—Anna?—crosses her arms. "We are on orders to get Mae help. Who are you to stop us?"

I point to the KUAA label on her jacket. "That association? My fucking association. Those orders? My fucking orders."

River, having shut the doors to the van, comes over. "What's going on?"

"Levi Kingston?" she asks, ignoring River's presence, her moment of realization evident on her face.

River slings his arm over my shoulder and pats my chest with his other hand. "That's bossman right here."

I throw him off me.

"Levi Kingston," she says again, and I almost groan in annoyance. "As in, Kingston United?" She taps her jacket label, jaw slightly unhinged.

"The one and only," River grins.

"Take the dealer to New York," I instruct Anne—I think. "Mae is with us."

She nods excessively, tucking hair behind her ear. "Yes, boss." Before she leaves, she gives me a look that I find pathetic. "Are there any other Kingstons? Like, a Mrs?"
