"...(Gem)...?"

....

"(Gem)... can you hear me?"

Ugh.

You could in fact hear the blue gem beside you. But you just didn't want to pay her any mind. Prisoners weren't worth your time anyhow. You didn't even want to talk to begin with. You simply wanted to relish in the downtime you've been gifted for however long you had until you reached earth.

"...Is... is that really you..?"

But for whatever reason, the blue prisoner kept rambling.

"...is she actually asleep...?"

"Hrrmmm..."

You didn't move from your resting position, nor did you even open your eyes to look at the gem, but you still let out a deep, low grumble lowly at her, as a warning that your patience was running thin with her, hoping she'd get the message.

"O-Oh." You heard her utter, after hearing the disgruntled noise. "S-Sorry."

She went quiet and you heard the faint sounds of her shifting her position, in which you felt her gaze off of you. You figured that was the end of it, and let out a soft huff through your nostrils. The silence and the lack of staring on your back allowed you to focus on the low rumbling of the ship and the faint humming of the high-energy screens beside you. It created the perfect source of white noise and soothed you enough to let you into a semi-deep torpor.

However, after about an hour and a half later, you hear the gem speak again, though this time it was in a hushed whisper.

"...It... can't actually be you..." She uttered, in a small voice that seemed to be directed more towards herself, as you felt her gaze on your back return. "Stars... What have they done to you...?"

You inwardly groaned at this. You no stanger to gems whispering about you, or staring at you for that matter. But without anything to distract you from it this time around, you found it difficult to fully ignore this gem.

"Homeworld... it was never like this before..." She muttered. She sounded... sad. "I... can't believe they would go this far..."

Never like this, huh? Despite yourself, you found that it was an interesting statement. With how much turmoil you've endured from it, couldn't think of it as anything other than a pain in the flank. How was Homeworld before...?

10 minutes of quiet went by, and you nearly dozed off again until you heard a the gem speak again.

"Uhm... (Gem)...?"

You responded with a gruff snort as well as a deep rumbling in your throat, as you let out a plume of smoke from your nostrils. You were trying to enjoy what little down time you had left, and this blue twit was ruining it...

"I-I know, I'm sorry... but... I just... wanna know..."

You hear her take a deep breath, before speaking.

"Do... you remember me?"

...what?

The question took you off guard. It was abrupt enough to have you lift your head and peer at the blue gem with a suspicious look. She winced slightly, but seeing she had your full attention, she leaned forward slightly towards the high-powered screen, presumably so you could see her better.

"I... it's me... Lapis Lazuli." She gestured to herself, leaning closer in the light. You almost winced at how hopeful she looked. "Do you... do you recognize me...?"

You stared at her for a long period of time. You really could care less about anything but being left alone until you were given orders. You then figured that if you'd cooperate, she'd finally let you be. You only slightly leaned your head forward, squinting slightly as you tried to see if you could tell if this gem was familiar to you or not.

Truth be told, you've encountered a lot of Lapis Lazulis in your days. Either to watch them terraform landscapes for Yellow to make more coloniez, passing them in Blue Diamond's court halls or to be pranked by them with their hydrokinesis powers while doing recon missions with them.

But this one in particular...

You squinted harder, leaning forward a bit more.

There was something off with her.

You haven't seen her on homeworld before. Yet somehow you felt like you've seen her... somewhere.

Your extensive silence must have gave the Lazuli in question the impression that your recognition of her fell flat. She wilted slightly, looking down in disappointment. "Y-You don't recognize me...?"

You snorted, given a single shrug. Even if you felt like you saw her; you really didn't want to think too deeply on it. It was just another Lapis...

She sighed, sulking against the walk. "Y-Yeah, I... I should've... yeah... all things considered... I guess you... wouldn't..."

You studied her defeated body language, for the briefest of seconds, you felt slightly bad about not recognizing the blue gem. Her saddened expression had brought back memories as to how you felt when you awoke in this wretched place. But that guilt lasted no more than a few seconds before you let out a soft grunt, and rested your head on your forepaws slowly, though your eyes didn't leave her.

After 5 minutes she looked back at you, and saw she still had your attention. You could almost swear you saw the faintest flicker of hope flash in her eyes as she decided to speak again.

"It's... um... it's been a while, since I've been to Homeworld..." She said, seemingly without thought. "And I... have to admit never thought it would've become like this when i returned..."

She sighed, pulling her knees up to her chest, and rested her chin on them, looking sad and confused all at once. "I... I can't believe they did this..."

You simply snorted softly in response, something that made the Lazuli brighten up, even just a little.

"I uh... I know you don't recognize me... but uh..." She gives you the smallest of smiles, though her eyes are still quite sad.

"I-I'm glad you're not... destabilized."

You peered at her, feeling the faintest flicker in your chest at her statement. It's been a while since anyone had earnestly complimented me...

But unfortunately, this ignited a new layer of trouble in your mind.

How could she remember me like this?

Where did she come from?

You couldn't indulge your thoughts any further, because your attention was snagged by Jasper's booming footsteps making their approach to you.

Lapis quickly stood up, as you raised your head and got up as well.

"Rise and Shine, runt." Jasper grinned at you maliciously.

"We've arrived."
