Kanabi Bridge

I knocked on the door. I waited, and entered after a muffled 'come in'. Lord Fourth was sitting at his desk, with Team Minato also in the room. "All right, I hope you all know the dangers of this mission." He began, and we all nodded. We were to be going onto the front lines, to stop the main supply line that we heard about in our scouting mission. "You will leave in thirty minutes, dismissed." We left the room, going toward our homes to pack our stuff.

Kakashi had just been made Jōnin and from what I was told, he was to be made Captain of this mission. I think it's stupid to let a new Jonin be the captain when we have the best Jōnin in our village as one of the three on the mission. I would've been a better choice than Kakashi and I was made Jōnin six months ago, but Minato was the best option. He has been a Jonin for years, yet he lost out to a twelve-year-old. It was sad.

I prepared for my journey by packing a small bag filled with essentials such as a med kit, chakra pills, smoke bombs, paper bombs, kunai, shuriken, and my katana. I then donned my Jonin vest over my black turtleneck shirt and slung the bag over my shoulder, securing the katana to my waist. Finally, I tied my headband to my forehead, proudly displaying my people's symbol. While I no longer wore my clan crest as it was hidden by my vest, I still held onto my last name as a reminder of my family ties.

As I arrived at the village gate, I found the entire team waiting, except for my twin. He eventually showed up and Kakashi reprimanded him for not following the Shinobi Manual. Minato gave a lecture to the boys before we departed. Rin and Minato gifted Kakashi his promotion to Jonin, but I didn't feel like giving anything, still upset about the leadership situation. Obito didn't give me anything either and never thanked me for anything I did for him, like making breakfast and dinner every day. It's frustrating to feel unappreciated.

As we formed a line, I positioned myself at the back, taking advantage of my abilities as an Uchiha and a sensor type to detect any activity in our vicinity and utilize my Sharingan to observe everything. Rin, being our medic and the final one to engage in combat, was in front of me. Obito, our long-range fighter, stood before her. Our leader, Kakashi, was in front of him, well-placed to communicate with the rest of us. Minato, our most seasoned member, took the front position, ready to act swiftly in the event of any danger.

We faced a dangerous situation as a group of ninjas attacked us. I quickly scanned the battlefield using my sharingan and identified them as being from Iwagakure. Kakashi tried to defend us with lightning techniques but the attack was too fast for him to keep up with. Without words, Minato and I shared a glance and agreed. I sprang into action, using my katana and infusing it with Wind chakra to make it sharper, successfully taking out all the enemies on the right side. Meanwhile, Minato did the same on the left side before turning back to our team. I also looked to Kakashi for answers, seeking a way to overcome the threat.

I was left speechless and filled with wonder as he performed his latest jutsu. "What exactly was that?" I asked, amazed.

"It's called the Chidori and I am the one who invented it," Kakashi said, pride echoing in his voice.

"Please don't do it again," Minato ordered.

"You can't handle it," I agreed. "You were getting tunnel vision, I believe only the Sharingan and Byakugan could keep up with it." Obito snickered, catching my attention. "What's so funny, brother?" I demanded, but he remained silent. I sheathed my Katana as Minato left to create a diversion away from the bridge. Unfortunately, I blacked out and have no recollection of what happened next.

I woke up in a cave, tied with some kind of fabric. There were two ninjas, with Iwagakure headbands displayed proudly on their heads. I looked around, Rin was in a similar situation to me. The Iwa ninja were whispering near us, but I couldn't hear them. I know that they would need Rin, as it was obvious that she was a medic, but they would just use me for information and then kill me.

An Iwa ninja walked up to me, holding a kunai in his hand. He pointed it at my throat, the tip grazing my esophagus.

"What are Konohagakure's plans?" He asked, applying pressure to the knife.

"L-like I'd tell you, bastards," I responded, feeling the small amount of blood dripping down my throat. He took the knife away, walking back toward the ninja who was near Rin. I closed my eyes, she was in Genjutsu. They could get as much little guarded info as they could. The mission would be safe, but other information wouldn't be. The Iwa ninja walked back toward me, pointing the knife toward my eye.

"I know you're an Uchiha now, so if you want to keep your Sharingan, tell me." I closed my eyes, refusing to speak. I sensed the area around me, two chakra signatures were coming toward the cave, one of chirping lightning, one of intense flames. Kakashi and Obito. I activated my Sharingan and the boys entered. I weaved hand signs, with one hand, breaking Rin from the Genjutsu. The ninja fled toward the boys, not sparing a glance at us.

I took a kunai from my pouch, slicing Rin's ropes. She took the knife, slicing mine. I opened my eyes, looking around. The one who put Rin in the genjutsu was slower than the other. I could get him. I weaved hand signs, making Chidori. I ran at the man, stabbing him through the chest with the lightning.

The other ninja created a cave-in. I ran back, grabbing Rin's hand before running as fast as I could. I left the boys behind me slightly, but I didn't notice Kakashi drop. Obito picked him up and threw him out, right before a rock crushed him. I turned around, running at the rock, trying to push it off of my twin, the only family I had left. I was crying, letting the tears fall onto his face. I dropped onto my knees, grabbing his hand.

"No, no, no," I sobbed. It wasn't just tears falling anymore, there was blood. "Not again, I can't lose you again. You're all I have left." My eyes hurt, but I couldn't blink, he could disappear any minute.

"Rin, I need you to take out my eye and replace Kakashi's." My eyes widened, he was given up his new sharingan, for his rival. Rin did as she was told, healing the injured eye of Kakashi. "Hitomi, I know I've been petty," He began, chuckling a little. "But I love you, I do. I've just been too stupid to admit it. Thank you, for everything." He turned to Kakashi. "Take care of them Kakashi, for me, please." Kakashi agreed, and we left him. We left my twin brother, my only family, for dead in a cave-in.

We found Minato, explained the situation, and helped us destroy the bridge. There was dried blood on my face, my new stage of the Sharingan was still activated. The tears will still come, and they wouldn't stop. I couldn't stop, because he was dead. We left after, the war was practically won. I just wish it ended before this moment, so he would still be here. So Obito could be here, with his sister, his best friend, and his crush. We went home, but it would never feel like home again. Obito would never be there, testing my patience with his ungrateful behavior. I would never be the same. Now the empty-seeming house will always be empty.

I didn't sleep at my house, I couldn't even sleep. I didn't stay at mine, we decided as a team to stay at Minato and Kushina's. We ate ramen for dinner and passed out due to exhaustion late. I curled into Kakashi, with Rin curling into me, Minato and Kushina on our sides, encircling us with their love. I may have lost my family, but I found a new one.
