"You can like both?"

That's the first thing he says after accidentally walking in on Argyle and Johnathan.

"Hi Steve?" Johnathan says confused from Argyle's lap.

Steve nods.

"Come join us brochacho" Argyle pats down on the empty space next him.

Steve silently sits down after he closes the door.

Silence.

Johnathan shifts and sits next to Argyle on the bed

"Are you okay?" Johnathan asks.

"I- you and Nancy?" He's so confused.

"We broke up"

"Oh" Steve sogjs looking down at Johnathan's carpet.

"What did you mean by that?"

"I- just didn't know you could like both"

"Both?"

"Guys and girls" Steve chuckles half-heartedly, "ugh I'm so stupid"

"Nah you're not just not open to the world yet" Argyle shrugs.

"I guess so" Steve drags his hands over his face, "so you two?"

"Us two?"

"You're together?"

"I mean we haven't discussed-"

Johnathan slaps Argyle's shoulder.

"Yes we are"

Steve nods.

"Cool"

"Cool? That's it" the surprise in Johnathan's voice doesn't't go unnoticed.

"Yeah im glad you're happy"

"You're so weird Steve" Johnathan chuckles, "here I thought you'd try and jump us or give us the stink eye"

"I did grow up Catholic and I was an asshole but i do have my own thoughts" Steve shrugs.

"Thoughts about dudes and chicks" Argyle chims in.

"Yeah"

"So you like both?" Johnathan prys.

"Yeah I guess I do" Steve sighs, "Jesus I'm so oblivious"

"We'll as I always say 'you gotta try before try deny"

"Robin's gonna have a field day with me" Steve chuckles.

"Your girlfriend?" Johnathan asks.

"What! No!" Steve whips his head to face the two boys, "me and Robin are Platonic best friends with a captial P"

"Noted"

"Sorry I just, I always looked at guys the way I do with girls but I noticed it wasn't normal and thought I was a freak so I blocked it out and went on dates eith girls I didn't even like" Steve sighs, "and all I had to realise was I can like both"

"Both being Eddie" Argyle snaps his fingers.

"I- uh yeah Eddie, he's great"

"Steve I tell Will this and I'm telling you" Johnathan looks straight at Steve, " you're not a freak you're just different and there's nothing wrong woth being different it just means some people are not gonna understand you and some people will and that's not your fault because that's you and there's nothing wrong with being you"

Steve starts crying.

"Oh shit I-"

"No I- thank you I needed that" Steve chokes out rubbing the tears away.

"Group hug!" Argyle shouts squishing them into a hug.

Steve chuckles.

"Argyle you're crushing us"

"Sorry Jon" Argyle smiles releasing them.

"Thanks really, gives me a lot to think about"

"Steve! What's taking so long!" Dustin shouts, muffled a little by the closed door.

"Oh yeah what did you need again?" Johnathan asks.

"Right your Mom said dinners ready and sent me to get you" Steve remembers.

"We'll be out in a little, bro" Argyle nods.

Steve nods and heads to the door, as Steve is leaving Johnathan stops him.

"And Steve please learn how to knock"

"Noted won't happen again" Steve smiles sheepishly.

Yeah he can't tell Robin this.
