"How's Eli?" You ask as Luisa enters the room, the rest of you remain seated as the bullet in Elena's stomach was being removed.

She gets seated next to you. "He's doing fine. He fainted as soon as he felt reassured his sister would be okay. Mamá made sure he was rested. I hope it's okay that we brought him to your house?"

"Of course. I'll probably let them stay there either way." You say as you remain agitated, despite Isabela's hand on your own, continuously rubbing the back of your hand with her thumb.

As soon as the physician exits, he smiles gently. "She's lost a lot of blood, but her condition's stable now. I'm going to need to examine her again when she wakes up. For now, you can stay as long as you'd all like, you can sit by her."

"Thank you." You whisper as you near her bed. Finding her there, it was quite odd to see her in what was always your position in the past. It must've taken her a lot of courage to finally free herself from her prison. You were sure she was influenced by her brother.

As hours pass, the Madrigals all seem to decide to meet at the same exact spot you stayed put in, bringing along Eli who seemed to be in perfect health.

"Why did you suddenly come here?" You ask as you keep your eyes on her, memorizing each cut and bruise on her body. She would hate to see it when she wakes up. And as much as you tried to keep your tone sweet, to be nostalgic as your best friend stood right behind you, annoyance was clear in your tone and you couldn't hide it. Why now? Why couldn't she have found the courage the night that you asked her to go with you?

"Why are you asking me in that tone? Did you not miss her? Isn't this what you wanted?"

"I think you're mistaken. I've let Elena go." You state as you finally look him in the eyes. "The moment she rejected my last plea, I had decided to finally let her go."

"I didn't convince her to do anything. She's the one who wanted to go. She felt your heart calling for her, that she needed to go back home to you. That's what she told me."

You stop yourself from cursing those words that come out of his mouth, keeping in mind that the Madrigals were still there. "My heart no longer calls for her. If that's what she came here for, she wasted her time."

"Why are you being like this?" Eli asks, exasperated.

"Because it feels like I'm being enveloped by poison all over again. The poison I had first tried to run from." You state as you stand up, Isabela following the action. "Now that you're here, I'm sure you can watch over your sister."

You turn away from him, taking a deep breath and remembering the way he had let you go that night, wondering just how much he was punished for letting you go. "I'm thankful... for what you did that night. But I hope you understand why I feel the way I feel right now. Take care of yourselves."

You head out, followed one by one by the Madrigals. Isabela reaches out to take your hand but hesitates. Would it be right to try and comfort you? Or would you have rather been left alone for the moment? She tries to put herself in your shoes, but it still seems impossible to be able to understand what it felt like.

"Do you hate her?" Mirabel flat-out asks.

"How could I ever?" You smile forcefully. "It would be a dream to be able to hate her. In fact, I'd rather have just forgotten her forever."

"I thought so. But is this really the way you'd like to handle it?"

"I don't know how else. But right now, I just can't bear to see her. She had made me feel like she was simply tolerating the love I gave her."
