Backstory: Unlike Scrooge and his family, Daniel's roots were mainly in America instead of Scotland and he went on adventures to preserve artifacts in museums while preventing corrupt people from using them.
Daniel met Scrooge, Della and Donald on a few random adventures and often teamed up when they knew they were in a race to beat someone else to the artifact, though Daniel usually let Scrooge have it so whatever fool would have to deal with the McDuck leader instead.
For a while, Daniel and Della used to butt heads on a lot of things at the start of their time around each other, soon starting to admire each other while unaware they were being drawn to each other too. Soon one thing turned to another and the two had a brief fling before they both moved on with their lives....with Daniel unaware of what his time with Della brought about.
When Della disappeared and was presumed dead or lost for good, which resulted in Donald leaving Scrooge and Scrooge giving up on adventures, Daniel soon quietly left his adventures too to be more active in his teaching career, feeling it wasn't worth it anymore. Though as this all happened, he was never made aware that Huey, Dewy and Louie are all his sons, not knowing Donald was raising them all that time
Though there's doubt that adventure isn't going to let Daniel spend the rest of his life alone and peacefully.
