We beg for forgiveness
instead of demanding autonomy
Identify the rationale behind why
just so that way we can tolerate
more pain
they would only do this if they were also damaged, wouldn't they?

And yet patterns play over and over
my bucket of forgiveness growing deeper and wider and gaining the depths which sunk the Titanic and all I want is to lift my hope from the ocean floor that someone will say I love you and not because of what I have forgiven of them.

And at what point do I decide that I no longer need to survive through breadcrumbs that trail behind my lover as I crawl, sometimes to be a step ladder for their success and when I can find the time I'll repair my broken rungs while they toss me aside due to their climbing.

Over time I've seen my worth be tied
not to work but to accessibility
allowing those I have given access
To take some of the sunshine that has dwindled over time As clouds
They came in and created darkness
For me to walk within their shadow
That I've willingly ran toward with open arms
