CHAPTER 20
"HONESTY HURTS"

[real life, instagram]

"posto has good food, matt. you can't bash it if you haven't even tried it yet," melina says, unbuckling her seatbelt as matt parks the car in front of posto, a well-known restaurant in the city.

"fine. i'll try it, only for the alfredo," matt mumbles as they both get out of the car.

nick had sent matt and melina to the market to buy ingredients for the baking video they're all filming tonight, and after arguing for most of the trip over the cart, they finally left—now starving. they wanted something good. unfortunately, matt was a picky eater.

melina had a hard time convincing him to eat something that wasn't fast food, so she picked a restaurant that served his favorite pasta, fettuccine alfredo. she knew matt wouldn't pass up the opportunity to eat pasta.

the door dings as they step inside, searching for a table. the restaurant is nicely decorated—soft yellow lights hanging across the room, greenery illuminating the space, and quiet classical music playing in the background.

matt feels awkward. him and melina? in a fancy restaurant? alone? it makes him nervous. he watches as she sits across from him at the round table.

tapping his foot under the table, he stops when melina steps on his shoe. "stop that," she mumbles, scrolling through her phone. matt notices the waiter approaching and suddenly swipes melina's phone off the table, stuffing it into his hoodie pocket.

melina looks up, frowning. "what the hell?"

matt smiles, leaning forward. "having your phone at the table is disrespectful, melina," he says pointedly.

melina tucks her hair behind her ear, squinting at him. "shut up," she scoffs, looking out the window.

a few seconds later, their waiter takes their soda orders and hands them menus before leaving. once matt gives melina her phone back, they quietly scan the food options while they wait.

"this food better be good," matt mutters, eyes scanning the menu. the restaurant is quiet, with only a few tables occupied.

melina sighs dramatically, placing her menu down. "stop being such a downer!" matt sighs, "you're just not used to trying new things. you'll thank me for bringing you here later." she shrugs, then adds, "picky eater. i'll have to note that down for the project."
